Park and hiked the Verde Trail, which is a rather new one that wasn't there the last time I hiked up in this area of the park, about 8 years ago.
The Verde Trail is a 1.2 mile "spur" off of the North Trail, which is a 2.9 mile loop. It head NE and has very good views of Four Peaks and the Mazatzals. It's very flat for the most part, crossing many minor washes, which showed a lot of recent erosion from the storms we got last week. The only drawback is the view of the power lines to the north. The trail ends at the Rio Verde development.
We saw a few deer tracks, which the kids got a kick out of. By the time we got back, all the kids were pretty well spent and ready to rest. The weather was very nice and the visiblity very clear. I think the temps were definitely in the lower 70s as it seemed kind of hot at times and the kids were starting to get thirsty. |
