A sign is posted there giving the phone number to call. I saw at least 3 other hikers up in this area, so I'm not sure what they think they're accomplishing with this. The last quarter to half mile of the trail is very faint and was kind of overgrown on this hike since it's spring now. I hiked all the way to the dropoff and then scaled up that to see if there was much a trail beyond that. There isn't. I compared the shape of my GPS track to the official trail on the Scottsdale issued map and the map seems to say that the trail goes on for another hundred feet or so. Again, whatever.
On the way back I took the side trail spur up to the quartz outcropping. This trail isn't shown on the official Scottsdale map, but once you get to the outcropping, there's a sign there that says "Sensitive Habitat, Stay on Trail". While I was up there taking pics of the quartz, I heard something off to my right and saw two deer making their way up the hillside. On the way back, I saw a huge clump of bees (maybe building a hive?) in a tree right next to the trail. I took ONE picture and moved on. |
