| partners | | This was another variation on a loop in this area. Andy and I started from the Wolverine Pass/Bulldog ATV TV just after 6:30am. Hiked FR10 to FR1356, then took a road up to the north end of Blue Ridge and hiked down the east side. From there we took the Spiderbite Trail 308 to the Tarantula Trail 309, then up to 1356 again. On the Spiderbite Trail, we found a trail marker that's a map that told us we were on the Spiderbite Trail. Interesting to see more work going into this area by the FS.
After heading east on 1356, we continued east down Bulldog Canyon as 1356 turned south. We continued down Bulldog Canyon until we got to the side wash that is a shortcut over to FR10 and took that back to the TH. That section of Bulldog Canyon is very cool to hike. Not too overgrown and a lot of interesting erosion and geology to see there.
Nearly back to the lot, I spotted a trail across the road made by a snake. I looked over to my left and I spotted it, just almost completely acroos the road. Andy and I immediately walked over to it and got some pictures. it started to buzz a little bit and was picking its head up as it moved like it was ready to strike. We kept a healthy distance but got our photos. We also made jokes about our wives yelling at us if they had seen how we ran right towards it once we spotted it. 
Weather didn't get too warm, but we were done early. Saw some ATV traffic on FR10 and 2 dirt bikers on 1356. Other than that, it was pretty quiet. Andy said the ATV fees have gone up so that might be keeping people away. |
