| no partners | | I had never been to the Marshall Gulch TH, and had never hiked on the Aspen, Marshall, or Mint Springs Trail, so I decided to rectify that situation. I talked Tracie into heading down to Mount Lemmon with me.
We started and ended the hike at the Marshall Gulch TH. Note that Google Maps refers to this as the "Marshall Gulch Picnic Area".
This hike was a figure-8 loop with a sidetrip to Lemmon Pool.
We began the hike by taking the Aspen Trail to Marshall Saddle; from there we took the Mint Springs Trail to the Mint Springs TH; then we walked a very short distance on Carter Canyon Rd and then hiked on County Road 18 up to the ski lift and the Pusch Ridge Wilderness high point. Then we continued east to Mount Lemmon Trail #5 and took it to the Lemmon Rock LO Trail, which we took down to the Wilderness of Rocks Trail. Once at the Wilderness of Rocks Trail we went west for a half mile or so and then went off-trail to Lemmon Pool. Then we went back to the Lemmon Rock LO Trail-WOR trail junction, and took the WOR trail to Marshall Saddle. From there, we took the Marshall Gulch Trail back to the TH.
I got the idea for this hike from a hike that Joe and the_Eagle recently did in which they utilized the Mint Springs Trail and CR-18.
The trails were nice on the hike -- I particularly enjoyed the Aspen Trail, the Marshall Gulch Trail, and the Mint Springs Trail. There were lots of ferns, butterflies, and wildflowers on the Aspen and Mint Springs trails, and the Marshall Gulch trail had some water running in the creek.
Lemmon Pool had a decent amount of water, but it will benefit from being refreshed by some monsoon rains. |

. I had a great recovery nap last night, and had no plan as of 08:00, so I grabbed the laptop, headed to Ski Valley and used my phone to pipe in a track. I knew I was limited in several ways, but picked the best route for my general needs. Great Choice! I'm not gonna go into detail here, but this trek was the conception of a "Peak of Summer", Mega-Loop, in the the upper-front range of the Cat's. The high elevation diversity along this route cannot be matched. I plan to refine this into a Description, where I'll be much more specific in the transitions (soon to come)...
