Went in on Brittlebrush, then to Old Mine, hit the High Point and then took Crest to its terminus. This was the perfect jumping off point to do some off trail - actually user trail - exploring. Just beyond the rock bench, south of the saddle, a user trail picks up, where the Crest ends. Took this trail down towards the homes. When it got to the bottom, it split. One segment went east, the other west. First followed the eastern segment. It went over a hill and down to a street named Tigre Del Mar. There was a sign at this street juncture saying “Superstition Foothills TH 37”. Cool! This meant that these weren’t user trails, but designed authorized trails. From here, I followed another trail over to SF TH 38. This was a short trail, not even .5 miles long, paralleling the street Tigre Del Mar. Followed a couple of trails on the west side of the hill. All of them looked like they had maintenance done on them, though I didn’t see any SF TH signs on this this of the hill. I was impressed that there was no “spider-webbing” from these trails. The last trail I was on led me to a power line road, which I used to get back to the Silly Mountain TH. Nice to finish up this system (with the exception of the new Ghost trail) and to knock out the trails south of Silly Mountain. Flowers were in full force - Brittlebush, Creosote, Coulter Lupine and a couple of other purple flowers that I didn’t recognize. Saw quite a few quail and rabbits, but not much else. |
