| | 5.5 | | | | | | | Take two! Weather looked a lot nicer, so we tried again. Still pretty overcast, but at least this time we could see the Thumb the whole way up. Definitely made the time go by faster.
Liz attempted Triebler's, but she hasn't been climbing, so confidence was a bit low. We decided to do West Corner instead (labeled West Crack here). Liz led, and said she was glad she hadn't continued up the previous route, as even West Corner was a bit heady. I think everything was pretty good until the slabby traverse. It had collected a lot of water and was just slick and wet where all the good foot smears should have been. Got to the top and took a couple pics and signed the book, then went down and had a snack while Holly and Will finished up on Triebler's.
Then on to Kreuser's. Liz and Holly swung leads, and Will led the first pitch separately while I followed. Probably better on a dry day, but it seemed like a pretty dirty crack when we climbed it. Wet, dirty, and lots of bird poop. I was glad I wasn't leading because it was just very awkward, and seemed like the rock would rather break than take a cam. We got to the top of the first pitch and decided to just stop there and rappel down Liz's rope. The second pitch is super short, shared ground with the top of West Corner, and ended about 10-15 feet above us, so we just took the easy route down for the sake of time and warmth. Packed up, hiked to the car, showered at our respective abodes, and then devoured food and drinks at AZ Wilderness! |
