This was a beautiful hike through Sabino Canyon and up onto Blackett's Ridge. Lots of ocotillo in bloom along this hike as well as Brittlebush and many others.

My husband and I go to this area almost every year for fishing (which includes a little bit of hiking when you take "government trail" rather than the pump station stairs). It is a beautiful area still, but the fishing has been devastated by the AZ Wallow Fire from last year. The fishing was terrible this trip due to the silt and ash that has collected along the river banks. Hubby got stuck up to his knees in the mud and almost lost his shoes it is so thick at the bank's edge. The next day we woke up to an inch of glorious snow on the ground which we are not used to at our home in the more southern part of AZ. The photo opportunties are endless in the pristine area where we (only) saw antelope, mule deer and javelina on the drive into and out of our campsite.

My husband and I spent part of our weekend visiting friends in Sierra Vista, they suggested we take a walk up Ramsey Canyon for the morning. Great suggestion! We saw a black bear right off the bat :) As we went farther up the canyon, we saw a few red-spotted purple butterflies, one Arizona Sister, and a couple others. Hanging out on the little gift shop were a couple big, cool moths: Glover's Silk moth and Western Imperial moth. I'll try to remember to post photos in the next day or two...

Beautiful day for a hike looking for the larvae of the daytime flying moth, Lerina incarnata. Sadly, we did not see any. So if you want to see a photo, go here: http://bugguide.net/node/view/259605

Will post pictures soon I hope...

Another beautiful day in Sycamore Canyon! Very cloudy when we first started, then it brightened up a bit. Not a large number or variety of butterflies, except the fatal metalmarks were in there by the dozens. I'll post some of our best pictures when I get the time!

We did part of the circumference trail, too; only about 30 minutes to the top.

Hiked up and down all over this area on the nature trail and along the creek running through it. Spent a beautiful weekend in Madera Canyon at the Santa Rita Lodge.

More beautiful butterflies and different kinds on this trip. Buckeyes, more Arizona Sisters on the way to the hike, Giant and Tiger Swallowtails, just a lovely hike...better temperature but more humidity. Great day though :)

My boyfriend and I hiked up to the top of the saddle and enjoyed the view, then turned around and went back. There was an area near the beginning that allowed for some trail running so we enjoyed that for a little bit on this Saturday morning. The weather was beautiful!

This was a fantastic day for me, I got to see a wide variety of butterflies including the Mexican Sulfur, Gulf Fritillary, Viceroy, Arizona Sister and Giant Swallowtail. Hiked it with my boyfriend (my butterfly expert) and we had a blast trudging through the water where we wanted to and stopping to enjoy the puddle parties of butterflies (20-50 butterflies clustered around a moist area just off of any running water or standing water). We spent most of the morning and part of the afternoon there, so I don't really know how long we spent doing the actual hike...or how far we actually went. Regardless, it was a great day and anytime in early September is a great time for butterflies, they're everywhere!

Hiked this trail with my boyfriend and a old friend that now lives in LA. We had a great time, the weather was really nice--the wind was blowing REALLY hard at the top of the trail...almost blow you over hard. Great hike, loved it :)

Ashleigh and I hiked it starting at about 8am and finished by 10am. WAY TOO HOT for June that late in the morning...went through almost 1.5L of water...wouldn't have been enough if I was drinking it like I wanted to!!

I love doing night hikes on this trail. Went with my boyfriend and an old friend that grew up here but moved away to Nebraska where there are no mountains! The hike was really nice, the moon was beautiful and it was a clear night so you could see downtown lights sparkling :) Always a great hike for a quick up and down the mountain.
