Joined the Estrella Warriors (Nina and Vicki) for an early start hike at the White Tanks. Did Mesquite/Ford/Willow loop, clockwise. Saw a bunch of hikers and 2 mountain bikers. Also, a group of 6 deer. Pleasant morning, did I mention it was early start? Had to wait for the entrance gate to open.

I needed to burn off that birthday hangover this morning so I took a spin around the EMRP Competitive track with my buddy Dan. We took the Mountain Pass option, which is way better than staying on the Long Loop. Wind was whipping through the valley between the hills. Saw a group of 5 hikers on the top of Mountain Pass trail.

Happy birthday to me hike! Hiked up to the North Star summit. Saw 2 hummingbirds at the summit, a coyote high tailing it up the side of the mountain on Exposure trail, a hiker with 2 collies (Mia and Wolf) on Grunt and then again on Randy's Ridge. Glad to have made the effort instead of sitting in my chair and drinking coffee. I got the rest of the day to do that :)

Took the gravel fatty out for a spin on the farm and desert 2 track roads south of Estrella Mountain Ranch. Over the past 3 years, this loop has gotten sandy enough that I could no longer ride through sections. With the larger tires, I can ride through with confidence! Saw one SUV heading out of the desert on Germann and followed a road biker for a mile on Estrella Parkway before heading back onto the desert 2 track. Be sure to close all the gates!

Bagel Bunch ride with Nick and Venjo from Cafe Bebida, Lucero, Estrella Mountain Ranch. I took them on a tour of the lesser used trails west through Lucero hills, Dog trails flats, and epic climbs on the Cisco trails. Ran out of steam on the way back and jumped on the sidewalks from the Estrella/Cotton circle back to Cafe Bebida. Saw one hiking couple right at the start of our trek on Sidewinder trail.

First ride of the day. Started from Safeway in Estrella Mountain Ranch Marketplace, crossed Estrella Parkway at Walgreens then into the desert to join the north Pirate trails. Pretty standard loop for me, What's UP, Coyote, Pirates Cove, 1 UP loop back to Pirates Cove, Scallywag, What's UP, Giddy UP, Saddle UP all the way down to Estrella Parkway, Tunnel Trail to Cottontail, cross the Cotton/Estrella circle, Estrella Loop/Marketplace to San Gabriel, cut through the parking lot behind Safeway back to the truck. Saw one couple riding mountain bikes on Pirate's Cove trail. Nice morning, windy.

Second ride of the day! I've been working on fattening up my gravel bike, which is quite the opposite of most gravel bike weenies. Ordered new wheels, brakes, tires, the last of which arrived while I was doing a brake bleed on the mountain bike after riding that this morning. Got all the goodies installed on the gravel bike and promptly took it out for a test ride. The problem I've been having with the gravel bike is that everything around my house has been getting super sandy over the past 3 years, making it nearly impassible with standard skinny gravel tires. Now, I have dimensionally the same size wheels and tires on my mountain and gravel bikes. The gravel bike tears through the sand actually better than my mountain bike, who would have guessed! Starting from the house I jumped on the power line road down to the FINS parking area, then Lum Wash north from Westar to Westar. Climbed up the Westar Hill, turned around at the top and bombed back down. Back on FINS trails, took the easy two track up to the Vista View saddle, then Rusty Rake, Spent Spade, and Connie's Causeway, back to the powerline and home. Super impressed with the new ride. Saw one hiking couple on the powerline road.

The mad scientist in me made an appearance this morning. I mounted up some used MTB tires I had laying around onto my gravel bike turning in to a Gravel Fatty, or maybe, a dropbar mountain bike. Took it out for a test ride loop on some trails that have been getting too sandy to get through on the skinny gravel bike tires. Couldn't believe how much I liked the MTB tires! Blasted through all the sandy bits! Started in FINS, took Maricopa Trail/Lum Wash/Stargate over to Estrella Foothills Community Park, picked up Park Ave to the EMRP Iron Ranger, GNODS Connector out to the end of Estrella Parkway, then neighborhooded it back home. Saw a hiking couple with some German Sheps on Park Ave trail.

I was going to take the day off, but wow, what a beautiful morning! Loaded up the fat bike and headed over to the Estrella Foothills Community Park for my standard sand loop into Estrella Mountain Regional Park. 2 track to the EMRP Iron Ranger, Crossover trail to Pedersen counter clockwise to Homestead back to Pedersen, Crossover, then Park Ave to Stargate back to the the Community Park. Saw one other biker on Stargate trail on my way back to the Community Park. Had all the other trails all to myself. Was expecting to see more traffic on such a nice day.

Riding Twin Peaks trails in Wickenburg with my buddy Dan. Did some loops south of Old US 60 then returned to the parking area via Old US 60. Trails are fairly faint in some locations. We followed one trail south until it fizzled out into nothingness. Saw one couple on dirt bikes on the 2 track. There were a couple of horse trailers parked at the trail head when we returned. Super fun singletrack trails!

Recovering from 2 days of vertigo, went out for an easy gravel bike ride on the 2 track farm roads south of Estrella Mountain Ranch. Saw some other bikers and walkers cutting through the neighborhoods.

Always love taking the gravel bike over to Verrado and riding around the neighborhoods and the bike paths. Lots of people out and about this Easter morning. Lost Creek trailhead is open again. Lots of expansion going on in Verrado.

Harem hike (Dan, Carey, Yolanda) on Estrella Mountain Ranch Pirate trails this morning. Started from Estrella Foothills Community Park and headed north on Stargate to Jump Line (aka 6' Under), connector up to Black Jack up to the top, down to the saddle, Up Yonder, Grasky to Brethern's Court, Rum Runner, Park Ave, Stargate back to the Community Park. Perfect weather, little breezy - but not bad at the top. Saw 2 bikers and 4 hikers. Lots of activities going on at the park upon our return.

Took the fat bike out for a sand ride in the Estrella Foothills / Rainbow Valley desert. Started from Bougainvillea Park at Estrella Parkway and Calistoga drive and headed east into the desert. Wandered on and off the powerline road and worked my way round back to GNODS trails. Saw 2 other bikers on the GNODS trails in the distance. Pleasant morning, nice breeze.

Fat bike adventure ride around Estrella Mountain Ranch this morning. Started from FINS and took Lum Wash north to Gila River, did some loops around Cisco trails, exited to Corgett Wash, D-Votion and Market to the Cotton/Estrella traffic circle, Sunrise trail sound, Maricopa trail back to FINS. More rocks than sand today, but I made up the effort on Cisco/D-Votion/Market climbs. Saw some bikers and hikers on FINS, Lum Wash, Corgett, and Sunrise trails. Nice cloud cover to start the ride. Terrible air quality today.

Felt like doing a beat down ride this morning so I headed over to Estrella Foothills Community Park to ride some Pirate Trails, AARGH! Started on Sunrise, which has become super sandy at Corgett Wash crossing, to Jumpline, Bootlegger, Grasky, Black Beard, counter clockwise on Queen Anne's Revenge back to Grasky, Jolly Roger, Doubloon, back on Jolly Roger, Park Ave back to Sunrise, with a quick spin through the bike park jumps and deposited some trail trash I picked up in the trash can. Saw a gopher snake on Park Ave trail. No one on the trails this morning.

Joined the Bagel Bunch (Dietrich, Joseph, Venjo, Jayne, Jane, and Doug) for a mountain bike ride on Dog Bone trails south of Buckeye, east of SR85. Great trail system for bikes, and every time I go there, I come away asking myself why I don't go there more often. Didn't see any other trail users today.

Harem (Carey, Dan, Christina, Yolanda) hike on South Mountain this morning. The plan was to start from the Francisco Highland Park on South Mountain Ave and 28th Street, but the gates to the parking spaces were closed and locked. So, we started from 24th Street near Mormon trail head and headed eastbound and down on South Mountain Ave to Devastator. There's a nice dirt foot path parallel to South Mountain Ave from 28th Street to 32nd Street, not that there's any traffic to dodge on South Mountain Ave, but plenty of dog walkers. Nice steep rugged climb up Devastator, which we had all too ourselves. Javelina Canyon had plenty of hiker/biker traffic. Fair amount of traffic on Mormon trail, all hikers. Turned out to be a great loop. My first time up Devastator, which I've been wanting to hike for some years now.

Made some cockpit adjustments to the gravel bike yesterday and went out for a test ride this morning. Cut the south loop short and took Corgett Wash from the Estrella Foothills Community Park up to the lakes. Did a loop around the lakes which turned out to be a lot of pedestrian dodging. Stopped at the South Lake pickleball courts and chatted with my Tuesday/Friday pickleball buddies Steve and Val. Chased down some other road bikers on Calistoga Drive to finish off my loop.
