Hiking Estrella Mountain Ranch Pirate trails with Nina, Lindsay, and Hunter this morning. Parked at Sendero and Estrella Parkway and did a clockwise loop up Roundup, down Upside Down, and finished off on SaddleUp. Saw one other hiker at the trailhead and then later at about our halfway point.

Sunset ride with my neighbor Craig. Some trails are looking pretty washed out from the monsoon rains. Saw one other mountain biker on Wayne's World. Nice sunset. Great full moonrise.

Nice leisurely hike on Estrella Mountain Ranch Pirate trails with Nina this morning. 60 degree start from the Estrella Foothills Community Park. Sunrise trail to Jumpline, shortcut up to Up There, Blackjack to the top, down to Up Yonder trail, back to Up There and retraced our track back to the parking lot. Stopped to chat with a lone mountain biker checking the line down Blackjack from the top. Didn't see anyone else on the trails today.

Decided I was in the mood for some climbing this morning and headed over to Estrella Mountain Regional Park. No attendant at the main entrance station when I entered before 8am. Campground is still under construction, so I parked at Navy and started on Horseshoe to Rainbow Valley, up and over the hill to Toothaker, headed south to Gadsden, East to Flycatcher over the hill and back on Gadsden to Butterfield north to Coldwater. Took Coldwater north to the end to check out the campground construction. Back around to Horseshoe and parking lot. Only saw one other biker, on Horseshoe, less than a mile from the lot. Plenty of hikers out and about, most notably the fellow all the way out on Flycatcher. Rainbow Valley and Toothaker hills have a lot of sedimentary gravel which makes climbing a challenge.

Had to replace the rear tire on the gravel bike, so test ride time! Picked out a nice mix of terrain around Estrella Mountain Ranch neighborhoods and farm field roads. Happy with the new tire. Beautiful morning. Saw one hiker near Estrella Foothills Community Park.

Took the fat bike out this morning for a tour around Estrella Mountain Ranch washes, jeep roads, singletrack trails, and neighborhoods. Sandy washes were nice and firm from the rains over the past two days. Took some different rocky steep jeep roads south of Elliott and east of Rainbow Valley, won't need to go back and push my bike up those again. Hit the Cisco trails south of the Gila River. Took Corgett Wash to Sunrise trail out to the EMRP Iron Ranger. Then Fenceline trail all the way out to Willis Road. Cut through some neighborhoods and checkout out the new construction on Mountain Vista road. Back on FINS for the ride home.

Harem road bike ride this morning from Apache Wash trailhead. Christina got a new (to her) Salsa Journeyman gravel bike, so Carey put this ride together to celebrate. I was keeping an eye on the radar the whole way to the trailhead, 50/50 chance we'd get rained on. We headed west on the pedestrian path all the way to the end when the drizzle started. Turned around and headed back wondering if it would pass over or not. Not was the answer and we were in full on rain storm one mile out from the parking lot. We all got a good soaking and warmed up afterwards with some name brand coffee.

Rode EMRP Comp Track Long Loop and Mountain Pass trails this morning. The Comp Track entrance has a nice new EMRP sign on Indian Springs road. Love the scenery on this loop. I got a decent amount of shade from the hills, which I wasn't expecting, and was greatly appreciated. Still the only car in the parking lot when I returned. Put a HAZ sticker on the new truck when I got home, now it feels just right :)

Took the fat bike over to Estrella Foothills Community Park this morning for a SandDay ride on EMRP PederSand loop. I don't know what's going on this summer, but all the trails seem like they're getting much sandier than in the past. That's not bad news for a guy with a fat tire bike. Started from the community park on the sandy 2 track fenceline road over to the EMRP Iron Ranger and then Crossover trail to Pedersen, counter-clockwise around to Homestead, eastward back to Pedersen, Gadsden west to Toothaker, a couple of tire rotations back on Pedersen to Crossover, Iron Ranger, then Park Ave back to Sunrise and the community park. Saw about 10 bikers in the park, far more than usual. Great cloud cover kept the sun off my back. I was a little nervous that I would get rained on, but, no rain.

Riding White Tanks Comp/Tech loop and Ford/Mesquite loop. Found a brand new tube on the trail, left it at the bike stand in the Comp Track parking lot. Hopefully the original owner finds it. Saw a snake on Grey Fox and horse back riders on Ford Canyon trail. Another humid start to the day. Couple of damp spots left over from Thursday rains.

Did a quickie ride on Estrella Pirate trails before Harem bowling this morning. Started from the Estrella Foothills Community Park and jump on Sunrise to Tortuga, Scurvy Spine, Bootlegger, Grasky, Queen Anne's Revenge, Jolly Roger, Doubloon, Rum Runner, Park Ave, Sunrise, back to the parking lot. Saw 5 other riders and 2 hikers with a dog. 68 degrees when I started this morning, WOW!

Busy week not hiking or biking. Bought a new truck, sold my camper van, so sad. But, now that's all behind me, hit the beaches of Estrella Mountain Regional Park on the fat tire bike this morning. Trails were more sandy than ever! Started/finished at Estrella Foothills Community Park, took Park Ave, Crossover, Pedersen to Homestead, clockwise on Homestead and Pedersen. Saw one other biker just outside of the community park as I was heading out. Had one giant cloud looming overhead keeping me in the shade all morning. Made pictures a challenge though.

Took the fat bike out to do some exploring this morning. Jumped on the FINS power line at 185th Ave and headed west. Crossed Rainbow Valley road followed some jeep trails up into the hills. After some pushing up and sliding down gnarly rocky terrain, I continued west around the hills on the flatter desert. Ran in to a woman at the bottom of the hill, she didn't speak english, I don't speak spanish, so we faked a conversation for a bit with a lot of head nodding and both went on our way. Followed more desert and farm roads between Rainbow Valley and Tuthill. I was on Maricopa trail for a bit and barely missed a coiled up rattlesnake. I stopped for some pictures and the snake never moved an inch, which is just fine by me. Eventually got to the gas pipeline road that goes through some new community development construction on the way back to FINS.
