Got to the Gila Cliff Dwellings about 10:00 am. A 2 hr drive north of Silver City. Only 50 Miles but a “ long and winding road.” The walk started off climbing right away but the scenery of the cliffs and canyons were fantastic!! We ran into an older lady coming back down the trail which was a smart choice because the climb gets steep in places. Few people on the walk but not to bad. The dwellings were amazing to see how people lived back in the day. Normally you can walk thru the Dwellings but the park is still in covid mode!!☹️ Social Distancing!! Inside was small, I guess! What we did get to see was great and of course pics don't give the whole story. The trail was well maintained. Hung around the park for a while before the long boring drive back!! Long drive but worth it!! Great day for a stroll!! HAPPY HIKING!!

Left Silver City NM at 0730 and drove 60+ miles northwest to the TH. Long drive through some hum hum country, saw plenty of deer. We got to the TH were the original mill was in late 1880. Walk down the trail 100 ft and we were in the bottom of a canyon. Sheer rock cliffs straight up hundreds of feet with water flowing below us. Walking on a steel Catwalk that the Forest service built in the 60’s to replace wooden planks built in the 30’s by the CCC. The wooden plank trail Was built on the original supports that an 18” water pipeline was built into and up the canyon to supply water for the hydraulic mining in the 1880’s. You can still See some of the original supports and anchors. The short walk was easy and there was a small creek to cross but the scenery was breathtaking. Lots of pics were taken but none of them did justice to the terrain. I had Jeans on and got a little warm until we got well into the canyon and the wind blew like a wind tunnel. A rock slide closed the trail about a mile into the canyon and it would of been interesting to go further up the canyon. More sheer cliffs for sure. Got there early so few cars at the TH but walking out the crowds began to show up. About 30 Cars in the lot. Long drive to get there but well worth it!! Great day for a hike!!! - Uh, walk- HAPPY HIKING!!!

Took the Mormon Loop and Actually started at the TH. First time going up the ridge to the National trail. Great views and I couldn’t get enough of the fantastic rock formations. Took a side hike to Fat Man ‘s Pass and Hidden Valley Tunnel. Few hikers but I think the bikers out numbered the hikers today. Started up the ridge at 06:30 and it was a great temp. Coming back on the ridge it was getting warm but on the way down a nice breeze saved the day. Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!

Its been almost two months since my last hike into the hills. After moving my kids and waiting on and overseeing contractors on the remodel it was great to be on the trails again. Maybe I can start getting in some miles now. Up Bursera Canyon up to and down Lost Mine Trail. Lost Mine has serious wash issues going on. One wrong step and into the canyon below. Poles are a must on this trail. At least for me!! Found my face mask I lost back in March just before I descended down Lost Mine. Not many hikers on this nice day for a hike. Most of the hikers today were of the elderly group which I am a part of so I felt right at home. Little hazy today but the views are wonderful as always!! Six cars in the TH lot when I headed onto the lower Bursera loop trail. Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!

Nice afternoon hike. Left the house about 2:30 pm. Cool and breezy when left. Up the Canyon was just the right temp. Up on the mountain the wind picked up. In fact I had to chase down my straw hat... luckily it didn't go down into the canyon. Coming back on the lower loop (unnamed) trail going west headed back home the wind was so blustery that it was almost as tiring as hiking up the Canyon. Few hikers out. Got a Birdseye view of some maneuvers by a helicopter hovering over National just above the Eliminator junction. They might have been making sure no hikers or bikers fell in the mine shaft up there. Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!

First time to the Thumb!! Great workout!! At 10:00 am it was 55 degrees and I Was sweating!!!! 🥵 Lots of hikers!! Talked to quite a few newcomers. First time up like me!! I probably stopped about a dozen times going up taking pics and most needed breathers!! Good trail if you like walking on kitty litter, but I didn’t slip once on the way down....baby steps. The runners going down the trail were brave.. also 30-40 yrs younger!! 😁 Lots of dogs too! Saw one biker but I think he came up from Gateway. Too crowed to bike Toms trail. The TH was so crowded when I got back that is was almost shoulder to shoulder. Like a mini convention. Great Hike, Great Views, and glad I did The Thumbs up!
Great Day for A Hike!!!! HAPPY HIKING!!!😁

Short hike today. Up Ridgeline about two peaks than headed downhill to the south to some rock cropping, I like to explore the boulders , and took a wash back to the TH. More hikers on a weekday than I’ve seen in a long time. I guess the nice weather brings us out!! Checked out some writings I found along the way. Whether somebody was fooling around or they were authentic don’t know. Some looked like hieroglyphs. (photoset). I’ m not very knowledgable on that subject!!🤓🤓 Heading out this morning I saw some lights headed up Bursera Canyon. Early risers!! Good hike and a nice day. HAPPY HIKING!!

Up Marco De Niza was a good test for my new hiking boots. If they can take the rocks on this hike they can do almost any trail. They passed the test. The first pair of hiking boots I have gotten that haven’t caused blisters the first time out. I think it is because of the socks made for hiking. I’m happy!! 😊 The Phoenix Police Dept. had a bike-a-thon. About 100 bikers took off on National about the same time I was climbing
Up the mountain. Few other hikers, most had dogs. Nice cloud cover, 55 degrees when I started and was thinking I might see a great sunrise....didn’t happen!! But the moon looked huge as it was full. Considered a night hike the night before because of the bright moon but....it didn’t happen!!! Went about a third of the way on Midlife trail but decided to backtrack and descend down on the rock buildings at the end of the service road. Some STUPID people marked up some stones at the buildings. ( photoset) They need to be banned from the trails!! Had a nice talk with a fellow Californian from the Bay Area, started talking to me because he saw my SF Giants shirt. We did a little Ca. Bashing but not to bad! Lot was full when I got back. There were cars circling to get my spot when I left. Don’t know what route the PD bikers took but they had a motorcycle escort and They were in the parking lot at Bashas on 48th St when I went by. Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!

Short afternoon hike. Temps said 49 degrees when I left Pyramid TH but I think it was a little warmer than that when the wind died down. Just got started when I got word that the GK were coming over for a sleepover so I cut my intended hike short. Went to check the bees on the way up Pyramid and decided to walk down the second wash that crosses the trail. Glad I did!! With the crisp clean air and quite made the hike a pleasurable one. Even though it was short I got to see some different things. Came out on Cholla Flats trail and saw one biker. With the nice rain we had, no dust flew when the biker went by. 🙂 when I came out of the wash, the Estrellas, a-washed in sunlight, seemed to dominate the landscape. Few hikers on the way back to the TH. About 10 more cars dotted the parking lot as when I started. Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!😀😀

Great afternoon hike. Left the house at noon, headed up Bursera Canyon, East on Bursera trail and back (west) on the lower un-named trail at the base of the mountain. Going up the canyon it Looks like more saguaros are having a hard time bouncing back from the devastating heat from this past summer. Seems like some of them just keep getting browner.
A lot of debris on the trails today. Saw a socking cap, sweater, several poop bags 😖 and just as bad, couple of cigarette butts 😫. Some afternoon hikers and the temps were perfect. Cloud cover all day. Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!😁

Took a mid-day hike up Telegraph Pass, down Kiwanis, up Ranger to National and back down Telegraph. I have done this hike the other way couple of times and this way is a little more
climbing! 🥵. Passed a Cowboy on his mount on Los Lomitas and he was kind enough to turn off his boom box. Quite a few hikers today enjoying the nice cool temps. Got up to National and I got a whiff of foul smelling smoke. A couple was laying on a blanket smoking.... Don’t mess up the fresh air of my hike!!😩
Got to the stone structure up above Telegraph and a young couple was playing grab a- -.😳 Oh well, it was a good hike anyway. Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!

I hit 400 miles for the year today!! No wonder I ‘m tired!!🥱 Considering I was limited for the best part of four months with foot aches🦶😫 I was surprised!! Took off from the house at 0600 and walked Bursera Canyon trail from the road in the dark... because I’m to lazy to get a headlamp... The moon was shining bright as it disappeared behind the Estrellas. Saw several lamps going up the Canyon and also Pyramid. The temps were cool which I like. Lots of hikers on the way back down Pyramid. Went by the Bee hive coming back off the mountain and it looks like the honeycomb has grown some since last time I saw it. Few bees flying in the cold temps. A great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! 🎉

Nice afternoon hike!! Up the canyon and around the mountain loop. Cloud cover was great. Got a little sweat on going up the canyon but at the top it was ideal hiking conditions. Got breezy on the way back on the no name(yet) lower canyon trail and got cool but that was short lived. Lots of hikers today of all ages. Good to see. Great day for a hike!! Took my grandson to the Ranch Ruins today. The questions he asked me I felt like it was a home school field trip! The questions a 4 yr old can ask....😳 I was exhausted!!
Saw a few afternoon hikers and it was getting colder the later it got. Noticed a couple more down saguaros. 🙁Several cars in the lot when we hot back to the TH. My hiking buddy was a champ! Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!

BEST HIKE YET!! Took my 4 yr old grandson on his first hike. Did the Canyon trail up to the intersection of the unnamed lower Bursera loop trail. Took us 2hrs to do two miles from the house but it was a priceless trip!! He said hi to all the hikers and bikers that passed us and didn't even break a sweat. I was the one sweating! 😂. He even had to take his ghostbuster poton pak back pack which I didn ‘t mind because he carried the water and his snacks....donut holes!! 😂😂. The first of many hikes for us.... as long as I can hold out!!!🤪 Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!!

Went upTelegraph Pass like I did a couple weeks ago but this time kept going to Goat Hill. Took the ridge north of Goat Hill (I call it Goat Point) which gives good views of the canyon between Pyramid Trail and National Trail. ( can’t remember the official names of the two ridges) 🙁 Took some pics but pics don’t do justice of the beauty of the mountains!! Two Hikers between Telegraph and Goat but busy on the way down to the TH. I was humbled when half way down Telegraph there was a mini hiker on the way up with his mom. Couldn’t of been more than 4yrs old. He was not even breaking a sweat and I was drenched going down. Maybe the 60 yrs between us had something to do with it!!! 😩😩. He stopped and pointed at my Santa Hat and said he has Ninja legs!! 🤣 Everyone I passed, individuals and groups seemed to be having a good day!! Lots of laughing and good moods!! Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!

Hit the Javelina trail at 0630 and connected with the Mormon Loop. First time taking the loop trail, somehow I have always bypassed it. Glad I took it!! Great hike and wonderful sights. The rock formations are neat to see. Looks like they were stacked like building blocks by some giant kid!! I know I’m getting older because when I got to the junction with National Trail, I didn’t know which way to go to get back to the TH. 🤪 Good thing I have the Trail app to tell me where to go!!!! —-always having someone telling me where to go!!!!😁😁 A few Monday morning hikers and the lot was 3/4 full when I left. On the way back to the TH some guy was pushing a kid young kid in a stroller on the trail. Talk about a bumpy ride!! Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!

Left the house about 0830 and saw few hikers on lower Bursera trail. Few more hikers the rest of the way, mostly before the Ranch Ruins. I was disappointed when I got to the ruins, graffiti on the old foundation since the last time I was there about 3 months ago- photoset. Why do people do that......Being stupid....Cant fix STUPID!!! Saw only two more hikers the rest of the way. Took off a layer of clothes on the lower trail, got warm, but when the wind kicked up in the mine canyon it was chilly. I must be getting old... was winded by the time I headed down Bursera Canyon. I noticed they put No Parking signs on both bridges on Chandler. The bridge by the Pryamid TH and the one by the Bursera Canyon TH. ☹️Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING and HAPPY TURKEY DAY!!🦃

Up and down The mountain. Haven't been on this trail for over a year. Great hike but gets to crowded. Cloud cover making it nice and cool with the sun poking out once in a while. Took a good break in the rock lookout and enjoyed the great temps. Fell on my butt on the way down. Time for new treads!!! Something tells me I might be a little sore in the morning. Any how it was a great day for a hike. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the nice temps. HAPPY HIKING!!😊
