Over the last six months spending a lot of hours waiting at the Mayo Clinic, I decided to walk the nature trail off Shea Rd. It could be billed as a mini arboretum, it is described as a small botanical gardens. Lots of plant life and this time of year- - - vibrant colors! 🌼🌺 I also learned a little about the Geology of the area. It was warm but the strong wind made it a great walk. Had to hold on to my hat a couple times. It wasn't the mountains but a great way to pass the time!!
Was worth the walk!!!! HAPPY HIKING and WALKING!! 😁😁

Left my daughters house about 11:00am and headed thru the park and a neighborhood, up Telegraph Pass to the stone lookout. Under cloud cover and after a good rain it was cool but pleasant. Past several runners coming down the trail. I have a hard time walking let alone running!! 😳 The rain settled the dust and the trail seemed to be in good condition. On the upper section looks like some trail maintenance was done. Noticed some scratching on the trail!!
It was warm with all my layers on going up the pass in the sun but coming down the pass late in the day it was shady and cold. When the sun was shining it was great but when a cloud got in the way it got cold!! 🥶 It must of been visitors day on the trail, talk to a couple from Up State New York, people from Michigan and a couple from Nebraska. They all loved the views!!! Saw lots of selfies being taken!!! Enjoyed the mid-day hike!!
Great day for one!!! HAPPY HIKING!!!

My own turkey trot on turkey day!!🚶🏻‍♂️🦃 Left the house at 11:00 am and ran into a few families on lower Bursera trail. By the time I got to the junction of that trail and Pyramid most of the hikers were headed home to goose thier turkey or
Grease it-whatever they do to a turkey!!!😁COOK IT!!! Haven’t hike up Pyramid for a couple years so was gearing up in my mind for it!! Looked tuff!! Part way up had a good conversation with a fellow hiker. He was kind enough to keep up with me by slowing down his pace!!!😆😆😆. …… Us pokey people!!! He beat me to the summit and was on his way down BEFORE I got there. Great talking to you, Steve!!
Didn ‘t see any hikers until I headed down Telegraph to the block structure. When got to the road that goes to the towers and Dobson lookout- I had to lookout!!! It was like a freeway. And the Damn cars where going fast…. Almost as if racing up or down the hill!!🙄🙄. Temps were great. About 60 when left the house and was cool in the shade but comfortable. Ended up at my daughter’s house just past Desert Vista Park.
Great day for a hike!!! HAPPY HIKING!! HAPPY TURKEY DAY TOO!!

Took off a 8:00am- little late for me. Didn’t want to walk on the service road at the start because it was 55 degrees and shady- plus it was like a freeway of people!!!😁😁Wanted to walk in the sun so I took off up Beacon Hill to the Ridgeline connector - boy was that tough! Need to hike more! Did Mormon to The Hidden Tunnel and back down National.Sat up on Mormon for a while enjoying the view. Love the rock formations!! By the end of the walk it was sunny on the road !!! Less people by then too!! Great day for a hike! HAPPY HIKING!!

Took off with temps perfect… 53 degrees!! YAHOO!!! Finally great weather!!! Went up Bursera Canyon, which kicked my butt!!— maybe not hiking much the last 6 months might be the reason!!! 😜then around the loop with a side trip to check out the Bees in the wash below pyramid trail. Don ‘t think the colony will ever be the same there😟. Had a good visit with @LindaAnn
And her four legged buddy! Did not pass many hikers but there was a chatty group that was coming down the Canyon as I huffed and puffed up! 😮‍💨😮‍💨. It was great to get back on the trails.
Great day for a hike!!! HAPPY HIKING!!

Up and down Pyramid and around Cholla Loop. Just wandering (such a nice day) and ended up on Lost Ranch. A few hikers and not many cars at the trail head. Air quality was a little better on the trails today. Could see the Estrellas better than yesterday!!! My ribs were aching by the time I was done thanks to the lost wrestling match with my 6 yr old Grandson.- - - One of these days I will realize I almost to old for wrestling!!! Great day for a hike!!! HAPPY HIKING!!!

Not being able to go hiking in the hills for the last six weeks I got in TWO hikes in a row!!! HEY ME!! I feel great!! Yesterday I did Telegraph Pass, up and down, and today I did Bursera loop. Up the Canyon and skirted around the base of the mountain on the yet unnamed trail. Few hikers out and the temps were great. Nice and breezy on top of the mountain and no breeze and warm on the way back. Hit the hot tub when got home and then had a two hour massage!! AAAHHHH!!!
GREAT DAY!! HAPPY HIKING!!🤗

Up The Canyon, looped around west on Gila trail to National. Took Bursera trail back over the hill to Gila and connector back to Bursera and down the Canyon. Great temps even though got warm at the end when the breeze quit blowing. I met the same person I hiked the loop with when I came down the canyon. He continued on Gila trail around the mountain as I took the connector. We figured he went a mile longer than I but still met at the bottom. Two different paths met at same time. Some of us slow hikers!!!🤪 The poofy clouds when I started had disappeared toward the end of the hike. Not many hikers out! It’s been over two years since I’ve last taken that route!!! Sometimes things look different but the same also. I guess it’s me that has changed. Slower and……. Older!!. 😟. Great day for a hike!!! HAPPY HIKING!!

After a dusty drive got to the TH about 9:00am. Lot was 3/4 full and it was about 65 degrees and getting warmer. Drove to the TH once before but didn’t do any hiking then. This hike for me kicked my butt but it was well worth the trek. Great rock formations and scenery!! The further up the mountain the more exciting it was!! Got tired about 3/4 the way up and thought about heading back down but glad I didn’t. Just getting to the crest of the mountain and seeing Weaver’s Needle majestically poking up into the sky was awesome!! Took out my mini binoculars and took a peek at the peak- 😆- A couple of climbers were on the top of the needle. Took a well needed break taking in the sights trying to figure out how they got up there!! Quite a few hikers around the needle and over by the Lone Tree. Couple of hikers coming down from the opposite side of the canyon. Told me about hiking Robber’s Roost which looks like a grueling hike!! By the time we got back to the parking lot I was glad to see my truck after hiking Heiroglyphic Trail earlier I was beat!!!🥵🥵 Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!!

Got to the TH at sunrise and it was 46 degrees!!🥶 Was wishing I put on my heavier sweats but It warmed up quickly! We were the third car in the lot. Easy hike in the canyon and great scenery!! Love it!! This would be a great hike for my grandson since he likes to walk on the boulders!! Lots of ancient pics to look at and try to tell the old stories. Quick hike In and out!! Tons of hikers going in when we were hiking out. The parking lot was full!! Good day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!!😁😁

A family friend came in from the freezing snows of Michigan so decided to treat her with a nice warm hike. Up Mormon and down
Geronimo. Stopped at Hidden Valley tunnel and a side trip to Fat Man’s Pass. I have now hiked the National trail from East to West-
Not all in the same hike- with the section between Fat Man’s Pass and San Jaun Rd. Being completed on this hike. We passed a few hikers enjoying the day. Each time I have been on Mormon I see the same two hikers. One runs and passes me twice as I hike the trail and the other hiker I always pass at Hidden Valley. I love the rock formations. They always puts me in Awe. I guess I am easily impressed!!😁 We took a short break at the bench before descending down Geronimo. It was the first time hiking Geronimo and came out and the Scout Camp at the bottom of the mountain. The hike was very enjoyable with a nice day to go with it. Great day for a hike!!! HAPPY HIKING!!!

I had to start on working on besting my 359 miles I did in 2021. -according to ALL TRAILS. ( I think I did all THAT chasing two grand kids all year)!!!🥵🥵
1st hike of the year and it couldn’t of been a better day!! Love to hike in these cold temps!!🥶 Got to the TH parking lot and was surprised, it was only half full. Usually on a Sunday it is overflowing!! I guess the low temp of 39 was a DETERRENT!!! There was one hiker on top of the ridge dressed like it was July saying how great of a day it was.. I think he was still celebrating the New Year!!😁 Descended down the ridge at the stone buildings on National. Lots of hikers and bikers on National. Got serenaded by some coyotes going up Marcos. A pack started howling on the west ridge then a pack started singing on the east ridge. Later on they must of ganged up because they howled a big concerto!! People waited til it got warmer because when I got back to the P. Lot it was packed. Two cars were waiting for my spot!! Little warmer when headed home..59!! Great day for a hike!!! HAPPY HIKING and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Went on a short/long walk today with my Grandson!! 😁 He tried out his new back pack. It was filled with a candy egg, water, Box of orange juice, a small cutie orange and a coke!! Well rounded snacks!!😆😆 Didn't go very far but it was fun!! My feet are usually tired after a hike but today was my ears!! 🗣Left the TH parking lot a 1:30. Nice and cool and some cloud cover. Full parking lot when started and 1/2 when left. Quite few families!
Great day for a short….short hike!! HAPPY HIKING!

Up Telegraph and instead of going thru to National or Pyramid trails, decided to go down Kiwanis. Haven’t hike Kiwanis for couple years. Noticed some petroglyphs that I haven’t notice before. Was imagining the story being told or the person doing the art. Back up Kiwanis and down Telegraph where I came across a hiker visiting from Pittsburg and heard about the ancient writings on the rocks and wanted to see them! Quite a few hikers later in the day. The first part of telegraph is littered with poop and bags AGAIN!!! 😖😖 when will SOME pets owners ever claim responsibility of a pet??? My pet peeve!!! 😁😁 Otherwise it was a great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!! 🙂🙂

Ventured out on a rare weekend hike since Friday’s hike got scrubbed! Headed up Bursera Canyon and did the Bursera loop, saw about a dozen hikers even though the 19th St parking lot was overflowing. I guess the party was on Pyramid. 😀 I did meet a couple that was training for the Arizona Trail. Sounds like a great trip. They said it would take the planned 2 months. Have fun and good luck!! That would take me six months!! 😆 When I reach the top of the Canyon trail I usually head west or take the bypass to Gila. Today I took Bursera east, which has been months since I have taken It all the way down. I can tell it has been heavily traveled with all the loose rock. It almost looks like somebody dumped gravel on it in places!! The loop hike makes for a great leisurely hike. Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!😊😊

Took a short hike up and down Mormon Trail. Such a nice day had to get out!! Couple hikers going up the trail but coming down the trail was busy. Couple large groups of hikers and many other small groups. Parking at the TH was full when I got back!! Love the rock formations on this north side of the mountain. Took a long break up on the top of the mountain, not that I needed it but the view is priceless. Great day for a hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!

Got a chance for an afternoon hike. Was dropped off at the Telegraph TH about 1:00pm. Up the mountain which was still busy, thought it would be sparse with hikers this late in the day! I can see it still being busy with the great temps today! When I reached National and headed west I saw three hikers until I hit Bursera trail. Someone had planted Old Glory up on a peak on Pyramid trail. Headed along the still unnamed trail along the base of the mountain below Bursera trail. It was busy with hikers and dogs. Speaking of dogs, some park ranger earned his keep by cleaning up all the poop and poop bags that lined Telegraph last week!! Thanks whoever it was because it was disgusting!! Lots of irresponsible pet owners!! Ok— I’ll stop ranting!!!
It was a great day for an afternoon hike!! HAPPY HIKING!!!! 😁😁

Good day to work off some calories. Up Bursera Canyon, hit Bursera trail heading west. Ended up cutting over to Gila thru the wash. Hiked east up the wash for a time and came across some interesting rock formations. Imagining how it would be with tons of water flowing down the canyon. Would be something to see but I don’t think I would want to be there then!! Few hikers and bikers today enjoying the nice cool temps and full sun! Hiked back down the canyon. Hadn’t done that hike for a while and it was nice to do it today. Quick and easy!! Good day for a hike!!!

Started at Telegraph TH at 2:00 pm for an afternoon hike. Headed for home which took me up Telegraph to National and down Pyramid. The Air Quality over the city looked like a doomsday cloud. Same to the south towards Maricopa. Breezy on top of the mountain and cloud cover made it for a perfect day for a hike. Saw about four other hikers all day. Couple of bikers too! It was great to get out after a morning of chores!! Great day for a hike!!! HAPPY HIKING!!
