Spur of the moment early morning hike and was surprised with some the prettiest fall colors I’ve seen in a long time. Unfortunately this formerly quiet trailhead is no longer quiet as evidenced by the hoards of people coming in while I was leaving.

The weather rapidly went from pleasant to hot so we camped out the near the trailhead the night before and were on trail by 5a since we planned an out and back via Hurricane Wash. Temps were going to be close to 100 coming out. The whole hike was beautiful. We made it up to Jacob Hamlin Arch, hung out taking in the magical views, and then headed out to beat the heat. If I didn’t have a friend with me who was deathly afraid of heights, I would’ve opted for one of the other routes in and out to avoid the death march out in the heat in a wash of gravel and deep sand 😂

Did a big loop through Munds Wagon, Cow Pies, and Hangover trials. The temps were lovely and I started at sunrise so I had the trail to myself most of the time until I was almost back to the trailhead. I was sad to see all the graffiti.

Fun, short hike. Perfect weather for exploring! I was pleasantly surprised that the trail was obvious in most areas. I enjoyed the moody skies for some photography and then hit up another area on the way out for some exploring.

My first time exploring this area. Explored a couple of different canyons and enjoyed fall colors! The rocks and canyon walls were stunning. I’ll definitely be back for more explorations here.

Nice hike out at Spur Cross. I always forget how wonky the trail is on this hike. One minute you feel like you’re heading towards the parking lot and then suddenly you’re going back the opposite direction. We had great weather. No desert creatures spotted on this hike.

Started at dawn and made our journey. It was my first time on this trail since I usually shy away from Sedona these days. This trail had it all, beautiful red rock views before dropping into Oak Creek Canyon near the creek.

Added this hike onto our Reynold’s Creek hike. The Center Mountain trail was a bushwacking, downfall adventure. We made our way through and took in the views from the peak. All in all a fun adventure with the scars to prove it.

A beautiful loop in Organ Pipe. The trail was in great shape! The weather was perfect. Lots of wildflowers blooming. The views up top were amazing. I wish I had started earlier in the day so I could have added Mt Ajo in.

A fun Halloween weekend into Haunted Canyon. It was beautiful as usual. The trail was overgrown in several places. I was happy to see that the large bee area was either sleepy or gone. Last year they were very active. Lots of old bear scat along the trail.

This was a new area to me. It was a beautiful, wooded wander that had some open areas for views of Sedona’s red rock. Definitely got buggy during some parts of the hike with the monsoons the area has been receiving.

The drive to this was the adventure. A spaghetti bowl of reservation roads that is like a never ending maze. I missed in a previous triplog that the gate to forest was locked at one end. On our way out guess which way we went? We did a big hike the day before so we just hung out up top instead of venturing down. It was an amazing day out in the wild. A map is a must!

This hike isn’t difficult, but it’s one of my favorites with the abundant scenery. This trip I got up with the sun and was on the trail early. It was a brisk 30 degrees when I hit the trail. I was blessed with lots of elk, including a brand new baby. I also heard a bear cub somewhere on the hill above me. I quickly moved from the area. The wildflowers and water were abundant.

This is one of my favorite scenic hikes in Payson. Climbed out the same way I came in, which seemed steep and never ending. There were lots of beautiful wildflowers around and water flowing. It was a great day to be outside.

The last few miles of the road were a fun adventure. High clearance and 4x4 are a must. We camped near the trailhead and enjoyed the peaceful of the creek flowing. The hike was the challenge I was expecting. I destroyed some pants butt skiing down the inclines. We enjoyed the views and some fresh spring water. I am looking forward to more adventures in this beautiful wilderness in the future. The day we were there we saw a few woefully unprepared hikers who didn’t listen to warnings, but were able to safely observe them leaving since were camping.

This was on my list for a couple of years. It was a cold day when we went, but well worth it. I can only imagine how beautiful most of the hike was before the fire hit near the Reavis Ranch junction. I am not one for cairns, but was very thankful for the ones near the creek bed since the trail washed out in several areas. The ruins were beautiful, and I loved all of the little cascades in the creek as we were hiking. It was everything I imagined.

This was one of my favorite trails as a new Arizonan a few years ago! I decided I wanted to revisit and explore the creek all the way up. There were still several varieties of wild daisies blooming. With all of the recent rains the cascades were abundant. The only downside to the hike…someone tried to steal my tires while I was off exploring so beware! Still a fun afternoon!

One of my favorite trails that I visit yearly. The road was bumpy, but any vehicle should be able to pass. I got there early in the morning for good lighting for photography. As usual when I started the trail it felt like I stepped into a fairytale. I had the trail to myself since I started early. I enjoyed the cascading water and tall pines. I listened to the birds sing and saw a Blue Heron in flight. When I was leaving a church group of at least 50 people pulled in making me grateful I came out early!

It had been 18 months or so since I had been on this popular trail. The road driving in was in good shape considering all of the traffic that is constantly on it. I expected to see much more fire damage from the Woodbury Fire than I did. We went in the afternoon so the trail afforded less people than you would see other times of day. We were lucky enough to be hiking on a day with big fluffy, marshmallow clouds. I was shocked to see a few puddles of water on this day too!
