I've never been out to this area before, so it was neat to finally see the Weaver's Needle from somewhere closer than Mazzie Peak. Joe told us all about the different climbs out there, but I can see why these areas aren't too popular with climbers. We went up Dacite Mesa, down to Fremont Saddle, and then down the Cave Trail. The hike up was a little strenuous, but was spent mostly in the shade. Perfect time of morning for this because of that. The route finding doesn't seem too difficult at this point because of all the cairns. Definitely a fun route though. A little hard on the knees coming down the mesa to the saddle though. The Cave Trail was fun and interesting. We got to see a couple of the caves as well as Devil's Slide. Got back to the TH right around 9! Kind of a nice surprise to see I still had a full day ahead of me. Took a nice long NAP when I got home. I think I deserved it!
Another fun hike with Joe, John and Tim. Thanks for letting me come along guys! |
