| no partners | | I make it out to the White Tanks only about once a year, so I decided today was the day to get that done. Started from parking Area #7 and headed up Mesquite Canyon trail. I remember this trail in the 90's was fairly rugged, and even difficult to follow in places; these days, you can't even find a rock on it to trip over. A little too maintained now for my taste, but it does make for quick hiking.
At the Goat Camp/Ford Canyon jct, I headed south on Goat Camp, then over to Barry Goldwater Peak. There were two guys painting one of the buildings at the summit, so we chatted for a few minutes, then I headed back down. Back at the same jct, I headed north on Ford Canyon to complete the loop. Again, 10+ years ago, I would never have seen anyone else on Ford Canyon; today I saw at least half a dozen people, maybe even a dozen, including two guys who missed a turn and were trying to figure out how to get down the dryfalls. I pointed them in the right direction and kept on going. I took Waddell back over to my car and finished up around 2:15.
Nice day, and great weather. The scenery in the White Tanks is great--especially Ford Canyon, but I do miss how quiet & sign-free this park used to be, which is part of the reason I only come out here once a year now. |
