It was sunny and cool in the morning and some light clouds moved in later to block the afternoon sun. The pace was pretty good as Butch was on my heels and I kept moving. Vern fell back a few times taking pictures but always caught up quick. We stopped by the bomber site on the way up and took several pictures along the way and reached the summit in about 2.5 hours. Kurt, Sally and Friends were relaxing on the top when we arrived as they had backpacked along the west trail the night before. After enjoying the views for a while we cruised back down and saw a lone bull elk cross the trail and farther down a few grouse like birds that were also tame. The trail was in pretty good shape and we only had to climb over a few downed trees. We relaxed at the trailhead for 30 minutes then hit Waldo's in Show Low on the ride home. |
