| partners | | A second attempt that fell just a little short. We started at 3:45 am and hiked up the trail with everything working. The GPS track was right on and the temps nice for a day that would later be in the 90's down below. There was one section where we went right and a trail went left. I looked and my GPS and the track was gone. I think the file upload corrupted and the track stopped. We kept going anyway and we ended back on the main trail. We ended up doing a summit spur and added a few hundred feet extra...bonus! We were at the ranger station about 9a and started on the upper section. The upper part was relatively easy last year but in the spring with 3 feet (hard pack) of snow it was a work out. The trail was covered and we followed foot prints (remember the GPS track done) then with two miles left we started up a slope which we though was San Jacinto but was really Jean Peak (10,670). On top of Jean Peak you could San Jacinto but short on water and ambition it will have to wait until next time. The shoe skiing down the side was fun and we cut some distance off by heading straight back. |
