At the last minute I talked Mark into hiking Devils Chasm instead of the original plan to hob nob around in the supes. We didn't know what to expect as far as the road conditions nor the trail. Before we knew it we were at the TH. It appears there had been some major maintenance done to the road so it was a breeze getting there.
Little did we knew that we'd be paying for the ease of getting there later on on the trail. The waterfall had more water running over the sides where you needed to climb than usual due to the slow snow melt, which made is slow going for the climbs. Once we reached the end of the falls the icy snow got got a bit deeper just enough to mike life more difficult. We came across places we just didn't want to tackle due to the icy conditions and exposure causing us to do several avoidance climbs. The real fun began that last steep stretch to the ruins. I'm looking forward to Marks post as I'm sure he can tell the story a lot funnier than I. :) By the time we did enter the ruins (oh that was another fun climb since all the rocks have been covered with water on the verge of ice) our energy had been totally depleted. After some pics and a much needed snack it was time to turn around since this has been taken us way too long. This was my fifth time to the Ruins and it was by far the most difficult one due to the snow/ice. But then again, what did I expect mid Jan.?
The important thing that we made it there and back safe and sound and had a fun time doing so. :y:
