Gorgeous hike. I'm glad I finally was able to make it out on this one! It was good to get out of the city and into the woods, sharing beers and cheeses with other appreciative folks, and talking shop.. or maybe just spending all my time defending the solo tent I brought. Talk about hardcore ultralight campers.. lol! Pretty sure I laughed last when the skunk arrived and poked at our site into the wee hours of the night. With my double guarded walls, I was certain that he would leave my sleeping area completely alone. I was almost right -- he did walk off with one of the crushed beer disks I'd stacked into a small pile nearby. Go figure, the only one he took was the only one worth taking: Modus Hoperandi!
The only ridiculous part of the trip was when we were leaving.. a huge group had walked off without doing so much as dripping a thimble of water onto their bonfire! We watched as several groups passing by, including boy scouts, poured what water they could over the fire. We made our own contributions as well, and then it was off to hike through the beauty back to the car. Finally, apples.
And note: when pondering to one's self about whether small canines get motion sick... the answer is yes! When in doubt, don't sit in the back seat with one in your lap.. no matter how cute and helpless he looks. Poor pooch.. poor pants. |
