A 3 1/2 day weekend.. time to get out of town!

I drove up Friday with a new friend and camped near Priest Draw. The road we took was pretty bouldery, and all spots seemed to be taken, so we ended up making our own little camping area in a flat-ish spot that didn't seem to have too much tall grass. Created our own small fire pit and cooked up some meals. There's some pretty nice tree cover there, so most stars were pretty elusive, but we did each catch our own shooting star. We put our fire dead out with more than enough water, then took to the tents.

In the morning we broke down camp. A ranger drove up right as we were putting the last of the supplies in the back. It was about 10:30 and already he'd put out several abandoned fires, and talked to several more groups about putting theirs out as well. So surprising that still so many people aren't paying attention. We went into town, grabbed breakfast, then went out to the Peaks.

Seemed like a pretty successful day for everyone.

Being it was Janelle's birthday weekend, she wanted to lead all of her climbs. Not only did she do a superb job, she also led a climb that managed to get into her head so many times before! I did no climbing myself this trip, but enjoyed watching everyone else, and did end up belaying a little. Afterward we went back to town for celebratory drinks and other such mischief. Good times, good people!
