| partners | | We hit the West Pinto trail from Rogers Trough trailhead at 0520. Some recent trail maintenance has the trail in pretty decent shape. Thanks to those who participated in this giant task. Once we left the trail, the real fun began. The brush kept getting thicker and thicker to a point where we were doing less than 1/4 mile per hour. There were stretches when our feet never touched the ground. Not because of elation, because the brush was so thick we had to walk on top of the twisted mass of branches. Taking the lead was a sure way to burn a lot of calories. Our 2.5 mile off trail adventure to Mound Mountain took us 5.5 hours. I tore holes in my pants, socks, and shirt! The hike down off Mound towards Reavis turned out to be much nicer, and before too long we were at the creek filtering water. We had pretty much been out of water for the past couple hours. I ran out of water first. Dave was kind enough to give me most of a big gatorade, and Joe, well he gave me his backwash. We decided not to go into Reavis Ranch or the falls as it was getting late in the day. We made it out just before 7 PM. Unforgettable journey! Thanks Joe for setting this up and driving. Thanks Dave for the excellent company and acts of kindness. Much appreciated. |
