| no partners | | I found a few people who thought Mazatzal Peak sounded like fun. Since I was up there once I got to lead. When will they learn? We again went up Y-Bar trail. There a few new fallen trees, (maybe 6) across the trail. The worse part are the baseball sized rocks at the beginning, the fun is just starting. We charged the peak from the saddle, climbed up on the ridge and zig-zag through the manzanita. The summit was ours in about 3 hours. It was actually a little cool on the summit and the views are great as always. The descent down the drainage below suicide ridge was fun. Many small oaks are growing near the top but easy to wade through. The area is fairly open and easy to navigate. There are a few dry waterfalls to go around (the highest climb over to the left and down) but nothing too crazy. The drainage intersects Barnhardt trail and it's an easy 4 miles back to the trailhead. It was still a bit warm so bring plenty of water. One gallon was the average and everyone was out. There's a new notepad in the summit register waiting for Stefan to sign in.
