1st trip
We led the perimeter Cabin loop for TUB and had a party of 6. It was a long 2 day backpack but well worth the miles. It's not often that you can do that many miles with very little elevation gain. The only negative was all of the roads. Luckily, the majority of the roads are not used very regularly. I do have to admit that I used my GPS a lot more than usual. I didn't want us adding any mileage on the trip by going on a road we weren't suppose to travel.

We started from our campsite just up FS95 from the junction with 300. We sorted of followed the tracklog/chevrons along the rim to the Houston Brothers Trail. Then we got on a real trail that was easy to follow. There were a lot of maples in the area so it would be a nice fall hike.

We took the Barbershop trail and had our lunch at Barbershop spring. The butterflies were out in force. The spring was flowing so several people topped up their water supply. The area has a big meadow with boarding trees in which would be nice to camp.

From there we continued on the Barbershop trail to the UBAR trail. Our destination for the night was to be North end of Dane canyon where the trail crossed but when we found Dane Spring we were charmed by the cabin ruins and the wonderful spring. We pitched our tents on a flat shelf overlooking Dane Canyon. Not much of a view because of all of the trees but it was still really nice.

That night as we hung out on the rocks an owl came to check us out. It actually flew into a tree really close to us and bobbed his head to ensure a good look at all of us. He was overly curious so we figured he must be a juvenile. We decided that he might be a Western Screech-Owl.

The next day we hit Dane Canyon and we were happy that we decided to stop at Dane Cabin. There was not any noticeable water in the canyon. We didn't spend anytime looking but I'm pretty sure we would have been able to find some. It was just so nice to have had easy water at the Cabin. Just as a side note, the camp area at Dane Canyon is really nice.

The next stop was Barbershop canyon. There was several pools of water and a couple really nice campsites. We had a nice break before continuing on.

Our lunch spot was Pinchot Cabin. I can't pronounce Pinchot which led to a series of funny conversations. Pinchot Cabin was in pretty good shape however it had been boarded up. The outhouse was being used as a trash. There was water in the creek. The area would also be a nice camp.

From there we hit the Fred Haught trail. I really liked the section between the Fred Haught Spring and General Crook Cabin. It was a nice walk alongside a creek. Many great camp sites.

We explored the General Crook Cabin and took a short break. We were all pretty tired from the high mileage with the big packs. I had a small mutiny in which everyone else wanted to take the road back to our cars instead of trying to find the old General Crook trail. I decided it was easier to give in since I had no idea what the terrain was like back to the cars off the road.

We managed to get back to the cars before a monsoon storm started. We hurried to change our clothes and pack up the cars. Then we headed to Strawberry.

We stopped in Strawberry at Mama Joe's Italian Grill and had a great meal! What a nice way to end a great adventure!

I would say it is probably a bit less than a quart per minute. But definitely water...

Wonderful flow out of the pipe. Awesome spot to camp too :)

dry Dude Lake Dry Dry
Looked dry from the "edge" of the lake, but it might be possible that there was some water under all the beautiful green grass.

dry McClintock Spring Dry Dry
I think I found the spot where the water would come out of the ground but it was dry.

dry Quien Sabe Spring Dry Dry
Perfect spot for a mud bath in the event you are into that sort of thing. But if you really need water you'd be a bit disappointed.
