We went on a car camping trip led by Wendy with ABC. Before this I had only met Wendy once at an ABC meeting at Bario. We've been friends on Facebook and obviously seen each other on HAZ.

After driving down from Tucson, we picked our campsites in the Ramsey Vista Campground. Then we headed up to Carr Peak. Angela and I really got into photo mode and stopped several times to enjoy the view and take photos. We did see some of the damage done by last year's fire.

We hung out on top for a bit for lunch then we parted ways. Wendy and Angela did the shorter loop since it was Wendy's first trip out after nursing her toe. The rest of us did the longer loop.

I had a hard time shaking photo mode, so I continued to stop and take pictures. I tried to force myself into not stopping as many times.

This was the first time I had done this section of the Crest Trail. It was absolutely wonderful. I had been bracing myself for burn area after burn area but I was pleasantly surprised to find that the rest of the journey hadn't seen fire in a long time (or if it had it was just a gentle fire).

At one point, there was a bit of commotion in which I nearly stepped on a baby bird. I made sure no one else stepped on him and then we left so the screaming mom could figure out what to do. Hopefully, the little feller was a survivor! Wendy and Angela said they didn't see it so I suspect he managed to get off the trail and somewhere safe.

After Bear saddle we saw some really big trees. It was nice to see old growth when you were thinking you'd just see charred growth. Our friend, Douglas, patted and spoke to each one :)

The trek down Pat Scott Canyon was again beautiful. We paused at the Hamburg mine site and then continued on to camp. The last section was a killer. We had to go up again and then down again and then up again. There also wasn't much for shade in spots because of the direction of the sun.

Douglas is kind of new to longer hikes so I hung back and made sure he made it out. I could tell the heat was sapping his strength. He hung in and made it back to camp without too many problems. Later he showed me his 3 black toenails :stretch: I showed him the sherpa knot so that he might be able to keep the boots a little while longer.

We hung out around one table to have happy hour. Angela made us all yummy drinks. Then it came time to make dinner. Joel and I had an elaborate pizza to make. I spent a long time trying to concentrate on the directions as I tend to screw things up because I don't read everything. Luckily, I read everything correctly and we managed to get a decent looking pizza. It went well with my wine.

Not long after dinner, I went to bed with a headache. I am pretty sure I was dehydrated and the alcohol didn't help any. I did wake up later and everything was back to normal!

I really enjoyed the trip! It was really nice to get to know Wendy and Angela offline :)
