| no partners | | From Schultz Pass, went up Weatherford, down Summit, and took it home on Kachina plus the rd and a bit of the Weatherford. Weather was perfect. Saw a lot of backpackers, which is surprising as it wouldn't be my preference.
Lower in elevation the aspens are phenomenal, especially around Snowbowl and the first half mile of the Kachina trail. From Weatherford there are a few sections through some color, but the best views are when you get to Doyle Saddle. Views down into the Inner Basin revealed how much of it burned in the fire, but there is still quite a bit of color down there between the dead patches.
Had trouble with altitude sickness after I had already come down the mountain, and even after spending the night before the acclimate myself. Not sure why it kicked in only after the descent, seemed pretty unusual.
Kachina trail routing was partially concocted by a madman! It alternates between perfect and asinine.
Those looking for extreme fall color need go no further than the snowbowl parking lot. |
