| partners | | What a great hike today! This was my ninth Battleship summit and everyone else's first-- I was glad to show the way. We made fantastic time.
About 3/4 of the way up the ship we saw a bighorn ram take a flying leap about ten feet in front of us and then run down Battleship-- it was awesome. I'll never be that close to a bighorn in the wild again.
We made it to the summit and I tried to contact Chris. I knew he would be out there with a crew and we talked the night before about trying for radio contact. He never heard me but I could hear him try to contact me a couple times.
We headed back down pretty quickly except for when John ignored my simple directions on how to find the trail back down from the saddle and led us on a bushwack .
We decided to take Boulder Canyon over to the Dutchman and return that way and maybe we would catch up to Chris and the other guys. About 3/4 mile from the junction, I could hear Chris trying to get me on the radio again so I assumed they were at the junction-- it was a straight shot from our location.
We ended up catching up to Chris and Jim and hiked with them for a while. Then we found Joe and Wally waiting at the trailhead. It was nice to see everyone again.
Great hike! |
