| partners | | After seeing 9L and ZukerRach's amazing photosets and fun-sounding triplogs from Saturday, we decided to hit up this area the next morning.
There were two other cars in the Peralta lot when we started around 7am. The clouds were a thick pea soup and there was a light drizzle. With 2-3" of rain over the past two days, water was running in every little canyon and drainage, including all the trails. Dry feet were not an option, and we were perfectly ok with that! Off-trail venturing on anything except solid rock resulted in above-ankle deep sloppy mud fun!
Boulder Canyon was flowing impressively, and the clouds occasionally lifted enough to see some of the sides of the canyon, but for the most part we were socked in. We had some fun with Daisy and the water crossings. Just before the Terrapin junction there was a really nice 30+ foot waterfall and we stopped there for a while to take some photos. It also began to rain quite hard at that time and I had to pull out my trusty golf umbrella because I didn't want to deal with my rain jacket.
As we took Crosscut toward Weavers, there were signs of the clouds lifting a bit, which we hoped would happen so we could get a view of the needle on this awesome day. Sure enough, we were able to get some shots, and it almost turned into a nice clear day down in East Boulder Canyon. Fremont Saddle was holding weather to the south however, and when we got back up there it started to rain again and it got densely cloudy once again.
The trip down Peralta always blows, and it was marginally better today due to the sound of rushing water down the canyon, and several nice waterfalls dropping into the canyon along the way.
I made a video of this day in response to Joe's ridiculous Peoples Canyon video, of which I hope there is a triplog recovered or rewritten ... with a stronger warning not to view his video.
Here's a quick 2-minute synapsis of our day. Tons of water. Great weather. Running creeks and falls everywhere. Hard to beat these conditions in the Supes!

Oh and on the way out, the Peralta mud was awesome fun to drive in, and in places is as slick as ice, one time launching us into an spectacularly uncontrolled spin that ended well off the road with a barbed wire fence across the hood. No harm no foul! Had her back up to 50mph in no time! |
