| no partners | | We started from the hieroglyphic th at 7:30 and hiked down the Gold Mine trail until we reached Turks head. From there, we went to the west side of Turks Head and walked to the north side. From there we angled to the Northeast until we sighted the Mushroom Rock. We negotiated several deep washes and lots of boulders and catclaw. I would describe it as a difficult hike wading through the vegetation and boulders.
The Rock is about 75 feet from the vertical wall of the Superstitions behind it. It appears the rock is eroding and falling apart and we wondered how much longer it would remain standing. The hike was beautiful with all the snow and the water runoff from the cliffs high above us. We returned the same way we came because past hikes took us through even more catclaw than we experienced on this hike today. We took a 30 minute lunch at the rock and arrived back at the th around 1 p.m. |
