| no partners | | I think I'm in love with Plateau Point...
I woke up early Thursday and sent a text asking what trails I should hike, John9L's exact words in reply to me were
"Go down to Indian Garden, it's only 4.5 miles down...don't be scared"
So I took up his "challenge" and headed down...I trotted down with some Russians and pointed out a few landmarks to them then hustled my way down at a quick step.
Around Indian Garden I passed by a couple from Nebraska who had NO idea what they were getting in to (in regards to the hike back up) I surrendered a bag of trail mix to them and led them to the water so they could fill up their bottles.
I then met an Asian couple who were perched on a rock alongside the creek, I squatted down to take a picture upstream and they decided to pass behind me...and as I stood up she bumped into him, he bumped into me and I went butt first into the creek...
I was soaked and chilly and decided I needed to hike more!
So I trotted the extra 1.5 miles to Plateau Point...the views were fantastic...the trail out to the point was simple, what's up with the random water fountain at the point?!?
I was also convinced that everything you need to know in life can be learned while hiking the Grand Canyon...
I met a family from Oklahoma out on the point who also didn't know what they were getting into, they're little girl who was 9 years old was exhausted and hating life. I introduced myself and started telling them what I knew about the canyon, they were fascinated and decided to walk back to Indian Garden with me, I pointed out 3 condors to them, 2 mule deer and my new favorite landmark, the Battleship. Maybe they weren't incredibly interested but I think it made the hike back easier, especially on the little girl who asked more questions than *I* do!!
I left the Oklahomans at IG and screamed up Bright Angel like a mad woman, around 2 Mile corner I ran in to two Germans guys I had passed a few hours before, we chatted and they tried their best to keep up with me, when we reached the trailhead I mentioned my post hike alcohol consumption (drinking is by far the most common past time up here with the locals...) and they joined me in Bright Angel and even bought my drinks.
I've never had drinks with REAL Germans before but boy were they a blast! Then we hopped to El Tovar and celebrated my birthday (3 days late) with more drinks.
Germans are awesome.
Anyway...fun hike!! |
