My entire weekend did not go how I planned at all but sunday dawned and I threw a post on ye ol' facebook saying I was going out to Fremont Saddle to crawl into that cave along Peralta trail.
We (Me, Shannon, Cameron and Winston the Goat) headed out from Peralta TH around noon and were at the cave in about 45 minutes....WHY did it take so long?! Well...when was the last time you hiked with a goat?

Anyway, the cave was neat, warm, musky and wet! I geared Winston up with my green party lights and we all went in, Winston was not about to get on his knees to crawl under the first little dip so he quickly turned back, Cameron, Shannon and I were in the shadows of the cave as we watched Winston walk out of the cave, all alone with his party lights flashing, into a group of dazed and confused people...I wish i'd been able to see the looks o ntheir faces but the laughter told the story pretty well! Cameron stayed behind with Winston and they went up to the Saddle, Shannon and I crawled on into the cave.

Turns out the cave DOES go a good way back, maybe a good 20 minutes of army crawling through 4 inch deep muck (water, mud, rodent feces, dead crickets, wolf spiders etc)

After about 20 minutes the top of my head was scraping along the top of the cave and my chin was buried in mud...I'm a tiny gal and probably could have kept going if someone had convinced me too but I at least reached forward and snapped a few photos.
I'm almost positive that someone my size could crawl at least another ten feet around the bend, who knows...maybe it DOES open up...I'm sure I'll brave the mud and darkness and try again later...

The hike back down was just as slow, and wet, and cold, but fun! If I had a dollar for everytime someone said "Is that a goat?!"...
