I think Jared and I started this one at about 2am, so the photos are a bit lacking... We parked in a neighborhood under the H3 freeway just past the tunnel, and walked about a mile to the start of the stairs. I knew this would be a tough hike, but I guess I hadn't realized to what extent! My legs were burning after 10 minutes, and the stairs seemed to never end! There were a couple times when I would look up and think I could see the top way off above us, so I'd look back down and trudge along one step at a time until we got close.... and then more of it would come into view, continuing onward again along another ridge! The top of the mountain was totally obscured by clouds, so I was drenched by the time we got up there (although I'm sure some of that was sweat, too)! At the top was a cement building at the base of a satellite tower. It was ridiculously windy and wet, so the only real option was to go inside. There was another group there with blankets and flashlights-- they were waiting to watch the sunrise from above the clouds. Sunrise wasn't due for another 2 hours, so we just ate our papaya and headed back down. Going down was tricky, as the "stairs" are really more of a ladder in some spots. It was a ton of fun! :D
