I basically did a Scenic Drive on the Mountain itself, being literally chased down the Mountain by some pretty wicked Storms...I arrived at Roper Lake State Park, where it was trying to Rain, had a late lunch with Chad and then decided to go over and check out Dankworth, since it has now reopened...Very Cool little Park. Was met at the Entrance by a very Colorful Bird who was catching Flies for Dinner... Went onto the Nature Trail that takes you up to a small Mesa where Dankworth Village is located. It's a Reconstructed Site of Prehistoric Dwellings and Use Areas...Did the Loop through the Village and then took another Nature Loop down into a Sandy Arroyo, saw another cool Bird Species and then back up and over the Mesa, back to the Pond...Finished going around the Pond and back to the Escape...It was no longer Raining, but the Cloud Action above on this Entire little Jaunt was awesome...
Went back to Roper Lake and kept an Eye on the Clouds, hoping maybe they would clear out enough for a decent Sunset...It wasn't looking promising, as there was a huge Thunderhead on the Horizon...Just about the time I was thinking it wouldn't happen, the Clouds started breaking up a bit and some Color started, so I went over to the other side of the Lake and waited...Chad joined me as soon as his shift was over. The Sunset happened and in a Big Way!!! Probably one of the best I've seen in a very long time... Something about these Sunsets, by themselves, are incredible...Over a Body of Water, they become absolutely magnificent!!! After many, many Photos, it ended...I stayed, and Chad and I visited and got caught up on all the News until well after Midnight and then I headed for the Valley...It was kind of nice driving that time of the morning, no Traffic, quiet, just you and the Road...
It was a Perfect Ending to a Perfect Day on a Perfect Trip!!! This area never disappoints and I am truly looking forward to the next Trip... |
