| Another HAZfest... Was really looking forward to meeting up with some new people and reacquainting with old friends...
Arrived late Thursday afternoon to a beautiful Meadow with killer views that Chumley picked out...You certainly know how to pick these sites Chumley!!! Drove past a Cattle Tank, an Arizona Redneck's Campsite and stopped briefly to talk to Chumley, who was putting the finishing touches on the Kitchen Sink that he brought...I continued on about a mile (seemed like it anyway) and decided that some dude from Oregon didn't need nearly that much privacy and set up Camp right next door...
Chumley went to cut Firewood, in anticipation of Pyrokopelli's arrival the next night...I set up Camp, dragged a bunch of Deadfall into Camp and then walked the Meadow a bit...Bob arrived, being towed by his energetic Lab, Bruno...Hippy joined us a bit later after arriving in Flagstaff, and Johnnybackpack and Patrick showed up, with Daisy running the Show... Had a nice visit with a normal, intimate Campfire that night...
Friday: Somehow, I convinced Oregon Hiker to get an early start in the morning, so we were out of Camp by 6:15 A.M. to head for our Hike...Got back to a "growing" Community as everyone began showing up...Was treated to a small, natural Lightshow at Sunset, then the Pyrotechnics were in full swing, as it became apparent from the Meadow, that nonot had indeed arrived... The Party was in full swing!!! Had one shocker moment during the Evening...The Surgeon General needs to put a Warning on Cigarette Packs...You never know what may happen when you throw a Butt into a Campfire...Apparently, it can cause a Chain Reaction...The second the Butt hit the Fire, there was an explosion and Steve and I got a Shower of Chunky Soup Beans 'n Ham... Can you say Bear Bait???... Apparently, some local Brewer, who had tons of Bottle Openers, forgot the Can Opener... For a second, I seriously thought someone had laced my Cigarette Filter with a little TNT! The Timing was incredible...
Our Show for the Night was Elliot, who decided he liked leaping Fires with a single bound...My first Thought??? Good thing we didn't have a HAZfest near Water, eh Joe???? After a great visit with a bunch of HAZers, and lots of laughs, the day was done...
Saturday: Got up late, scrapped my plans for a Hike and ended up doing a small one later that day...The Sunset that night was Killer and once again, the Fire and Company were memorable, including Barrett's Fine Art Campfire Project...Didn't quite go as planned, due to a Windstorm that decided to start, the second he put his Artwork over the Fire...It was still very Cool and the Fireworks towards the latter part added even more Entertainment...
Sunday: Lounged around Camp, Dog Sat while the others went Shooting, watched an incredible Storm over Humphreys, and then helped pack up Camp...Leave No Trace doesn't cut it...It was more like, Leave it in better Condition that you found it, and we did...With that many people, it was actually amazing how little cleanup there was to do... Finished the Day with my first Trip to NiMarcos Pizza, yum!!!
Photos and Videos: Tibber did a great job with Barrett's Fine Art Fire Project and I know that Cindy got some great Stills, so I'm not going to duplicate...Will post 2 Videos that I'm not sure anyone else got...Oregon Hiker did a great job with People Portraits and Campfire Scenes, so I'll just post a few of Camp and the Amazing Scenery that we all got to share...
Video 1: John9L decided to celebrate his Birthday with a bunch of HAZers instead of his sister...Such dedication!!!

Video 2: Fire Jumper...You know I taped this just in case Elliot missed....

Another amAZing Event!!! Big Thanks to Chumley for not only taking it on, but also for his time organizing, site selection, and thinning the Forest of dead trees all weekend to keep nonot in business... It was great to meet and see everybody and look forward to doing it again next year... |
