| partners | | I had to be down in Tucson for a Class on Saturday night, so I figured if I'm going to do the Drive, I may as well stay for a few days...Just wished it could have been any other weekend... Randy offered to nail down a Campsite early and show me the area...As much as I love the Outdoors, I have not done any kind of Recreation down in the Tucson area, ever...I have worked both there and Nogales on jobs, staying in Motels, and 35 years ago, I worked in the Huachucas for a couple of Summers...That is the extent of my visits to this area...So even though I've seen some of it, I've never really "seen" it... That changed drastically this Weekend...If I didn't see it on Foot, then I saw it by Escape...
The Trip didn't start out well, it was a non-start actually...Climbing in the Escape to leave at 7:00 A.M., and realized that I had a low tire...The Nail cost me a couple hours of Delay, but finally I was on my way. Memories of some of the area, from driving in the past, surfaced, as I made my way down I-19...I always enjoyed how Green and Lush Sahuarita and Green Valley were, compared to the Desert around them...And then I was in Madera Canyon, stopping once to get pictures along the way, as the Clouds were putting on wonderful Shows in the Sky! I warn you all now, you are going to be sick of Clouds before I'm done...Have I ever mentioned how much I love Clouds??? And on this day, the Clouds above me and over the Santa Ritas were very much promising Rain...
I met up with Randy, who was already set up in Camp, and proceeded to get my own set up...It was spitting Rain still, but we decided to go for it and do a short Hike, with Tour Guide Randy leading the way through this lower part of Madera Canyon...(Separate Triplog) Let the Photography begin in earnest...
Arrived back at Camp, had a little Dinner, followed by a small Campfire courtesy of Randy, then hit the Sack with a bit more Rain...
Got up the next day and went on a bigger Hike with Randy into Bog/Kent Springs. (Separate Triplog) Got back to Camp, had Lunch, and then, before I had to take off for Tucson for my Class, I visited the Santa Rita Lodge up the Road, to check out some Birds...I'll bet between my two Birding Stops, and the Hikes, I saw at least a couple of hundred Hummingbirds this Weekend... And they weren't the only Fauna to be had...Let's just say it was a good Weekend...The Photos will tell the rest, although I won't bore you with too many Birds...
Headed to my Class in Tucson at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum...Haven't been there in 35 years either... Stopped for a few Photo Ops on the way there as well. (Have I mentioned yet that I love Clouds? ) Attended the Class and got back to Camp late...
Next day, we broke Camp after deciding on a Scenic Drive through Southern AZ...Randy played Tour Guide for awhile and then cut loose to head home while I continued on...I will do a Separate Triplog for the Drive, it was a Good One!!!
Thanks for everything Randy! The Campsite, Re-Intro into Southern AZ and the Santa Ritas, Excellent Guide Service and Good Company...Considering this was last minute and a Holiday Weekend to Boot, we did pretty good!!! |
