The Agua Fria was a different beast compared to two weeks ago and it was tricky getting across...can't see the rocks through the muddy water. Reminded me of Peeples Canyon (curious since I've never been there).
There are a lot of habitation signs on this part of the mesa, most noticeable at first were the many piles of small rocks on the big rocks. Alston told me these were made to be "agave gardens" - makes sense to me. I ran across some scattered petroglyphs - mainly old and faded.
There was a medium sized ruin at the mesa edge and a few other scattered small ruins along the way....enough to make it interesting. A breeze on the mesa kept it bearable on this hot day. |
