| no partners | | I've been (sort of) systematically exploring the cliffband along the SE edge of Perry Mesa looking for petroglyphs and other Hohokam-era habitation signs. I counted up and this was my 6th trip there - just for some context I overlaid the various GPS tracks on a map (picture #1).
My wife came along and we did finish the edge between Brooklyn and Squaw Creek Ruins (~total is 3mi) and also a section west of Squaw. The petroglyphs in the new areas we looked at today we're less impressive than almost everywhere else along that edge, but still we found quite a few.
For me the highlights were a couple smaller ruins we stumbled upon - as usual low walls, lots of pottery pieces, and grinding slicks with a few bedrock metates.
Also just staying on top of the cliffband while passing by some of the previously logged areas we got nice views of some really good glyphs from a different angle.
Usually I see no one on Perry Mesa but today was a crowd: a few hunters in pick-ups and there was even a Jeep Cherokee all the way into Squaw Creek Ruin with 4 people....also a little garbage there. :-( |
