| no partners | | Starting from the New Windmill I zig-zagged through the tall grass (and army of grasshoppers) from rockpile to rockpile. My thinking was that best place to find rock art was on a rock.
I did find two minor "free range" petroglyphs, and near the top of the hill I found a concentration of pottery sherds and flaked quartz (but no obvious ruin walls) - an ancient hang-out I guess. I continued down the other side to one of the Baby Canyon ruins I've visited a couple times before. Found a few new petroglyphs.
Took a more direct route back and ran across a small ruin: this one obvious as the ruin had created a raised mound and had some recognizable walls - very little pottery though. Go figure.
91° at the start, 98° at the end...consistent with my experience that PM is ~8° cooler than Phoenix. A nice breeze made it OK. |
