I had been to this specific area before and found quite a few ruins but not a single petroglyph or metate, so I thought it was ripe for a closer look. Also I was curious about road conditions (wet in the ruts but mainly OK).
As always it was enjoyable walking on the mesa. I found several ruins I hadn't been to before, all recognizable by collapsed walls and abundant pottery pieces. And I did find one small grinding site a few hundred yards east of the main Rosalie ruin...but still not a single glyph. Don't know whether the local population was less artistic than their neighbors or maybe it's just the rocks are not so good...mainly granite. |
