| partners | | I had some responsibilities to tend to that kept me from getting out of town this weekend, so Kyle and I decided to do a quick trip up Battleship, taking advantage of the cooler weather.
It was nice to meet ALMAL at the trailhead. There were surprisingly few out on the trails today. The sun was still a touch warm, but the air was cool and the breezes were perfect.
While ascending we talked about the bighorn sightings up there in the past, and I saw a few areas of scat that looked somewhat recent. Sure enough, just before crossing the throat, I spooked a large male about 15-feet away, who made eye contact with me briefly before darting off to the north. Not sure where he could have gone, but we never saw any sign of him again. Always a cool experience to see them from such a close distance. Such a majestic animal.
On the return, Kyle took a spill, but it seemed to be just some surface wounds, and the return trip was uneventful. |
