We waited a while for Alex & company but decided to leave a note and start going. This never works as planned because they didn't see the note and we took different trails in but we had a preplanned campsite so it worked out. We made good time hiking in, parted ways with Kyle & Lilly and started up toward Battleship. We took a break and soon saw Joe, Bruce, Dave & Ray making there way off Battleship. After saying hellos and goodbyes we were off. This was Stephens 1st Battleship summit but early on I knew he wouldn't have trouble. We had the summit to ourselves but saw several people coming up after us. We passed them on our way down and one of there group stayed back with the dog as they found it's not a dog friendly scramble. Next we hiked down to Lower La Barge Box and started to set up camp. After relaxing for a while Denny noticed Alex hiking out of La Barge Box. We hiked back in with him and met Andrew and the other guy. The evening was cold but nice fire and good conversation made it enjoyable. In the morning I got the fire going again and Denny & I ate some breakfast, packed up, said our goodbyes and hit the trail. At the trailhead there seemed to be a greeting from Bob on the back window and Lee was parked next to us. It seems almost every HAZ member was it the Superstitions this weekend. |
