| partners | | Just a quick outing today to get my Brother-in-law, Mike, introduced to the Superstitions and what better introduction than Siphon Draw from the Mining Camp to the waterfall. Mike comes from Northern Minnesota where he worked for many years in the Iron Mines producing Taconite and is looking forward to becoming another seasonal resident of the valley.
We left the parking lot at the Mining Camp around 0830 hitting the almost deserted trails on a cloudy, but warm morning. There was a group ahead of us out of sight but not out of earshot as we began the gradual ascent into the Siphon Draw Canyon. The wildflowers are becoming more numerous with the bright yellow blossoms of the Brittlebush showing up in several places along the trail. There were lots of flowers with a narrow red tube that I wasn't familiar with but a Google search found that it's called Beloperone and only spotted a few Globe Mallow mixed in with other plants.
We were taking our time to let Mike take in the sights but we eventually caught up with the leading group hanging out at the base of the waterfall in the slickrock basin. The sun was still trying to punch through the clouds but it highlighted the Flat Iron nicely. After taking a short break and getting some photos, we began our decent down a trail that was quickly filling up with hikers and dogs heading in the opposite direction.
It didn't take long and we were back at the parking lot shedding our gear and stuffing it in the back of the truck while looking back at that mountain and it wasn't even lunch time yet. Good to have ya along Mike, looking forward to a whole lot more hikes in the Superstition's |

On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip. |
