| no partners | | Last Tuesday as I was hiking through Boulder Basin, I passed up on some interesting photo possibilities with the sun rising behind the unnamed hills south of Black Top Mesa. My quest for that day was to hike the unnamed canyon running alongside Yellow Peak so I made a note to myself to return another day to see what the sunrise looked like in this area.
Had no plans going for Friday so it was head back to Boulder Basin to see what I could acquire for sunrise shots. After another speedy trip along a dark Dutchman's Trail, I arrived in the basin as the sun began to creep over the distant ridges. Immediately I knew that this was the wrong day for sunrise photos cause there were no clouds to break up the sun's rays and add color and texture to the photos
I found several interesting locations but the sunrise was too intense making the shots dull and lifeless. So I just took shots of anything and hoped that Lightroom 5 would be able to salvage something from the mess. Then I continued on down the Dutchman's Trail until I could see Aylors Arch high on the sunlit summit of Palomino Mountain. Even Weavers Needle was hiding in a layer of haze far up the canyon.
No hike in the Superstitions is wasted as the morning was calm and the sun had by now burnt off the morning's chill. Birds were singing all around me and the sounds of civilization were too far away to be a distraction. The early morning blue sky had a few high altitude vapor trails from aircraft taking their travelers to far away destinations..... But for now, it was just me, the mountains and the desert.....and one day soon, I'm going to return, and hopefully to a perfect sunrise |
