Just a bit chilly this morning with the large broken clouds hanging heavy overhead, some of them appeared to be anchored to the top of Superstition Mountain blocking the view of the summit and ridgeline. It looked like there were enough breaks that the sun might work it's wonders and provide us with another spectacular sunrise. So once I finished my morning duties, I grabbed my camera and headed up to the top on one of the close by hilltops for a look see.
Last night's rain was still hanging in the branches of the scrub Palo Verde with droplets of water suspended from the tips and reflecting the early morning sun. The air was fresh now that the rain had rinsed all the dust and haze from the lower atmosphere and the mountains had rivlets of water running down the sides.
The trails were quiet in the early pre-dawn but I knew that wouldn't last too much longer as this would be another busy day at the Trail Head. From the hilltop I could hear the magical sounds of running water, something I haven't heard for several weeks during our drought. So I slowly worked my way down from the hill, guided by the sound of water running over and between rocks somewhere below me. I crossed the Dutchman's Trail and soon found a small waterfall tumbling out of the rocks. It always amazes me how such a small amount of running water can make such sounds that carry for hundreds of yards through the mountainous desert.
As I returned to the Trail Head, Superstition Guy was talking with some hikers about to head into the wilderness, giving them some tips on what to look for following the rains and what were the best trails to use. We talked for a while but too soon he had to leave, just out enjoying a morning drive to the Trail Head. Shortly after that, someone called my name and there was Tibber (Angela) getting her gear on in preparation for an outing. Didn't recognize her when she arrived because she's driving a shiny new AWD SUV Wished her well as she headed out to Boulder Creek and back.
A few overnighters were heading out, a couple of nights at Charlebois for one pair and five nights out in Boulder Basin for another group..... not locals cause they wanted to know where to find water out there. Lots of other hikers doing an out & Back just to check out the water in First Water Creek.
It was a busy morning at First Water, I left at noon so I could get home and get a good spot in front of the widescreen TV and watch NASCAR running out at PIR..... Think I'll go to Massacre Falls tomorrow to see how much water's flowing |

Wildflowers Observation Isolated The Brittlebush seem to be on their last legs already, hope the Poppies are able to make the best of the rain and put on a show. |

On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip. |
