After leaving the Falls Creek SNA in Minnesota, I traveled across the always scenic St. Croix River entering Wisconsin at Osceola. I grew up not too far from here so I'm quite familiar with this area but it seems there is always something new to discover and I was on a discovery mission today and hoping for some new hiking destinations.

I parked the Explorer on Osceola's Main Street, gathered my tripod, camera and mosquito repellent and headed down the loooooong set of steps leading to the falls. The stair way is a scenic trip of it's own presenting you with views of the falls from different levels and the creek flowing from the falls on down to the St. Croix a short half mile further down.

At the base of the stairs is a well built and well designed bridge that offers outstanding views of the falls and a short stretch the cascade above. I had set up my tripod because of a dense overhead canopy so it's not well lit down here and I wanted to shoot an assortment of photos of the falling water including fast shutter speeds to freeze the falling water and long duration shutter speeds to make a silky effect of the falls. I moved to several locations along the bridge offering an exciting assortment of views of the falling water. A gentle mist hung in the air but I was unable to capture it against the falls.

Initially I was all alone as I had expected but soon a young lady came down the steps, looked around the area below the falls and :o began removing her clothes :o She kept looking at the falls and I thought NO! she's not going to get in the falling water, is she? Soon a gentleman, much older than her, came down to the waters edge, they talked then she crossed the creek and went behind the falls and struck poses as her companion snapped photos of her with a cell phone camera ](*,)

Since my camera was all setup, I began shooting her through the falling water with my camera set up for long shutter duration's which produced lots of fuzzy shots. When she came back across the water and looked at his shots, I offered to show them what I had produced so she asked if I would photograph her with her cell phone camera :? which I did. Then I asked her if I could shoot her with my camera and she gladly consented.

I don't like to shoot photos of people, they're too critical, unlike landscape/natural photo ops where Nature is always happy to pose and leave it up to you to get the best angles. But I wiped the gathering mist off my lens, set my tripod in the creek and she headed into the falling water to strike a series of poses. This is June in Wisconsin, the ice left the lakes only a month ago so this water's (pumpkin) COLD! I told her she was moving too much but she obviously, was shivering and displaying goose bumps [-X and I knew that this wasn't going to work but I offered her my card and told her if she dropped me a line, I would send her copies of my shots.

You know..... I can't remember if there were any mosquitoes down there :y:
