Falls Creek was a bit less than stellar and since I was in the neighborhood, I made another trip to Osceola, WI to see if there was some Autumn Color lurking down by Cascade Falls. The sun was still hiding somewhere behind the gray overcast and the overall color was still too early but as long as I was here.....
I parked on the Main Street right next to the observation platform (for those who don't/can't do the 110 steps descending to the falls) and got my photo gear ready. As I was heading down, I met a young lady ascending the steps kinda quickly so I asked if she was OK. She responded that she makes 10 circuits daily up and down the steps. Wow! That'll get the heart pumping.
Once down by the falls I added a 4-stop ND filter to my polerizer to stretch out the shutter times and smooth out the water, both at the falls and in the creek below. Taking some chances because the falling water creates enough air turbulence to blur leaves and long blades of grass, but it also deposits a light film of moisture on the surface of the filter
The falling water left a natural haze in the air that I wouldn't be able to Photoshop out so on a couple of the shots I exhaled on the surface of the filter to add even more haze for a dreamy appearance....
The lack of sunshine meant fewer visitors to block my shots so I had the area pretty much to myself, except for the girl still jogging up and down the steps
Once finished with the falls I headed back up to the street and met the stair jogger as she was on her last circuit then I went to the Cascades along the creek above the falls for a few more parting shots. I was pretty wet from my earlier hike and now splashing around in the creek so, lets see ....10:00.... YUP, time for a beer at the local pub.
Now refreshed and rested, time to head back to home and about half way there ..... well there's the sun breaking out |

Autumn Foliage Observation Moderate Just a bit early for good color, but it won't be long now. |
