It was chilly and overcast for most of the day so when the sun finally peaked out after lunch, I ditched my chores, grabbed the camera & tripod and headed out to see if there was some local color happening. Carlos Avery Wildlife Area is my first choice but with hunting season now open for archery, I decided to head into the SNA (Science & Natural Area) where hunting is prohibited.

The winds were still gusting and blowing the now colorful but fragile leaves from their tree branches. The ground was littered with colorful Soft Maple leaves in bright red, orange and yellow while several of the trees were still green

I was hoping that most of the trees would reach color at the same time, but looking now, I guess that's not to be in the cards.

The forest was quiet except for the frequent gusts of wind but I saw no wildlife with the exception of a few birds searching for insects in the treetops. A few persistent mosquitoes still buzz around looking for that last opportunity to draw a bit of blood before the first freeze ends their season.

Rain is in the forecast for the next several days along with more wind and most of the state is in or close to maximum color right now so I'm just going to see what happens :pray:

Been setting stuff aside that will be going to Arizona with us. It's always a packing nightmare trying to fit everything into the Explorer but we'll just fight it out.....October 20th, hitting the road....Can't wait to get the hiking boots back on and get out in the Superstitions again :y:

Some trees are past prime while others are still green....Go figure :-k

On every trip into the Superstitions, I find another Gold Mine. Today the mine was filled with Memories. I can not wait for the next trip.
