A couple of years ago my wife and I took a train ride from Osceola down the tracks between sandstone cliffs and the St. Croix River, across a river bridge into Minnesota and return. It was a nice trip through some very scenic country that I have long wanted to repeat. The day was still young so I continued my exploring, this time looking for a hidden water falls somewhere along the rails.
The temperature was slowly climbing but most of this journey would be secluded in the shade of the high cliffs along the North and East sides of the tracks. This wet spring has produced a lot of flowing water and small water falls were a constant source of entertainment along the way. I wanted to get some views of the falling water but the river side of the tracks was very steep with lots of brush/weeds/trees and loose stones to keep me on the top.
I continued on for two miles but was unable to locate the hidden falls that I was after and walking on the irregularly spaced ties was getting boring and tiring so I turned around and retraced my tracks back to the train station.
I drove back into downtown, found a parking spot in front of a watering hole and went inside for something cold to drink and a burger for lunch.....Yum
I guess we're going to have to take that train ride again so I can find that falls |
