| no partners | | I may have missed one of the snowiest winters in Minnesota's history, but I haven't missed out on one of the wettest June's in the states history The recent series of storm's that have dumped record amounts of rain, have given us a short reprieve so I was determined to get out and put on a few hiking miles and see what's happened to Coon Lake.
I arrived at the deserted parking lot, doused myself with a strong Deet repellent, grabbed the camera and hit the trail to the boat launch area. The lake has a small control dam on this path that controls the level of the lake and I was surprised to see that the dam was completely submerged by at least a foot I have lived in this area for almost 40 years and have never seen the water as high is it is now. Portions of the path were underwater forcing me to wade through a couple of inches of water to continue my hike.
The mosquitoes found chinks in my Deet armor and managed to get in their licks as I walked and waded through patches of woods along the deserted trails. I did manage to observe a deer a short distance off but thanks to the pesky mosquitoes it was a short pause
One tour around the trails was enough to satisfy my hiking desire but on the way home I wanted to see how the roads through Carlos Avery had fared with the rains but only found all entrance roads blocked Guess I'm going to have to wait out our Monsoon season before I can get out and enjoy the outdoors |
