Trinity Lake is great and all, but I can't believe I've been there 3 times before hitting Lassen. Lots more to come as I hiked Lassen Peak, Mill Creek Falls to Cold Boiling Lake, Twin Lakes Loop and the monumental 0.2 mile Devastated Area Interpretive Trail.
Bumpass Hell was everything I had hoped even if there were hordes of people. I think I may have had a Booneman sighting. I'm not sure because he was moving too fast.
A lot of people were probably finishing up a long family weekend in the mountains, and a humorous situation played itself out when a teenage girl loudly claimed that she was feeling faint and that she had to get away from the strong smell of sulphur. Her parents remained unconcerned, and a few of us unfortunate souls in the general vicinity got a consolation chuckle when she was (loudly) reminded by her younger brother that "texting will still be there when we get back."
I liked the boiling mud and sulphur-smelling steam vents, and I couldn't help but think that the spot is reminiscent of a copper mine. Very cool spot. Pics to come soon, a lot more pics plus links to riveting videos of boiling mud and blowing steam. |
