| no partners | | I started at the Schultz trail-head and did the following trails to a figure 8
Weatherford trail
Inner Basin
Waterline
Bear Jaw
Abineau
Waterline all the way back to the Jeep
Weatherford:
The sun was warm but the wind was chilly. I went just past the Inner basin turn-off to make it to 11,000 feet
Inner Basin
Much warmer and neat views of the peaks and some snow
At the Inner Basin/Waterline intersection, a group of hikers stopped me and chatted a bit. I got distracted and went down the wrong road! Instead of going on the waterline, I went down an old abandoned road to the Inner basin TH
Bear Jaw
Started off rough but then turned out to a great trail
Abineau
An uphill junkies delight. The trail climb and climbs. But the payoff is a great views of the peaks!
Waterline
The trail is 100% clean from the inner basin to Schultz tank. The forest service spent a lot of time/energy to clean all the dead fall from the Schultz fire. The forest service also install cement on all the drainage's. They must expect some major run-off this monsoon season.
It was dark for 2/3 of this trail, but I did notice that the Schultz fire destroyed most of the trees along the road and now there’s views of Flagstaff and US180. I could see the city lights on the hike out.
It was a fun hike. This was the maiden voyage for my new rugged, waterproof camera. I tried out a lot of the settings.
If I were to do it again, I would go down Abineau and up the Bear Jaw. That steep climb
The temps got very chilly (almost cold) when the sun went down. I had to put on a wind breaker |
