After the US conceded a last minute goal, diminishing any hope of automatically qualifying for the round of 16 at the World Cup....I needed to get out. I've been wanting to go walk the Sabino road and hike near the dam area at night for a while. With the current drought I knew I'd be hard pressed to find any signs of life.

I didn't actually find the first rattle snake of the evening. A young boy on his biked yelled out "Rattle Snake!" His mom probably jumped about 2 feet in the air. I naturally ran over to see what kind/size. It was a beautiful Western Diamondback who was not paying any of us the slightest bit of attention. He gave a few quick rattles as he slithered down the embankment. I followed a good distance back and captured a few good pictures as he slithered on. I didn't find the 2nd rattle snake either. I met a German snake enthusiast who was excitedly snapping away at a bush. I knew he must have found something and introduced myself. He had found a Tiger Rattlesnake curled up behind a rock. I mentioned that I was out looking for wildlife. Immediately he invited me to join him in finding more snakes. He was vacationing in Tucson to photograph and observe rattle snakes. I learned so much as we talked throughout the hike. I finally found another Tiger who was curled up on a rock. He did not rattle once as we approached and began taking photographs.

Unfortunately we did not find another snake that evening.
Overall, it was a great hike with some great finds.
