After seeing @Gummo 's photoset of his Temporal Gulch adventure I knew I had to check it out. I started at about 5:30am at Madera Canyon with the plan of going up the Old Baldy Trail to Josephine Saddle and then down the Temporal Gulch Trail for about 2 miles. About 20 minutes into the hike I heard the unmistakable call of the Elegant Trogon. About 10 minutes later I lucked out and the guy flew into view and perched on a dead stump about 50ft away. Just close enough to get a super pixilated iPhone pic for proof. I heard two more further up the trail, just before the landscape turns to pine forest, but they were further up the mountain side and hidden from view.

I hit my 5 mile mark just shy of 3 hours into my hike, right at the part where the trail winds around the south western slope of Josephine Peak. I wish I could have kept going, but I was due back in phoenix by 1:30pm. I turned around and headed back. Heard some thunder on the way back, but it looked like any rain would wait until the afternoon.
