It is these passes that were used by people for hundreds of years to get to the Gila River. On our way back we stopped at a granite cluster. We found a couple of odd pieces of pottery that weren't polished and also found remains. A cremation jar. When we were at the Amerind Foundation I mentioned these pieces to the archeologist and he felt they could be Patayan. That would put them pretty far east. So we went back to photograph the pieces and in doing so came upon a transition piece that went from rough to smooth and a rim piece. I also found more remains, so when I finished I gathered them together along with the sherds and put them in a safe place. Yeah I know leave them in situ, but I felt it was the right thing to do.
Edit: It turns out that these pieces are indeed Patayan and not Hohokam... |
